Pi Kappa Alpha At University Of South Carolina Found Dead
A member of Pi Kappa Alpha at the University of South Carolina was found dead in an off-campus house early Wednesday morning. The name of the student has yet to be released. The death has been ruled as “suspicious, but that there are no signs of foul play or trauma,” according to WLTX.
There are no further details regarding the cause of death at this time, but an autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday. Sources close to the victim confirmed that he was in the pledging process. Kegs and St. Patrick’s Day decorations were visible on the porch of the house that contained the body.
The Xi Chapter has since been placed on administrative suspension.
From WLTX:
The Columbia Police Department and the Richland County Coroner’s office are both investigating the death of the student, who was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha. Coroner Gary Watts says his body was found around 10:30 a.m. at a home on Lee Street.
The student has not been identified. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
The University issued a statement offering their thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of the deceased, and reaffirmed that, despite a number of rumors circulating, the circumstances surrounding the student’s death does remain under investigation by Columbia Police and the Richland County Coroner, and therefore identifying the student, or the cause of death, must be left up to those officials.
The national office for the fraternity issued a statement Wednesday afternoon say the USC chapter is on administrative suspension, and has ceased all operations for now. They add that the fraternity is cooperating with investigators.
“The fraternity’s thoughts and prayers are with the family of this young man and the brothers of Xi Chapter,” the group said in a statement.
We have been told that the name of the student is Charlie Terreni. It is important that all of us — regardless of Greek affiliation or lack thereof — send our thoughts and prayers to the Terreni family and the brothers of the Xi Chapter.
The coroner’s report has confirmed that the student who died is Charlie Terreni Jr..

Rip man. Too much negatives in the greek community late we need to stick together. Rest easy, hope the grass is greener.
10 years ago at 12:53 amIt’s really sobering to realize you can truly lose everything in one night, making the same regrettable decisions we all have. God be with this poor guy. He had his whole life ahead of him.
10 years ago at 1:13 amLooked him up on Facebook, seemed like a great guy. R.I.P
10 years ago at 1:18 amUnfortunate tragedy for his family and friends and the Greek community. This month has just been terrible for the fraternities nationwide.
10 years ago at 6:06 amEveryone needs to stop doing stupid shit till the fall or we’re all going to have Greek life taken away. There’s way too much going on right now. Rest in peace to the passed brother.
10 years ago at 7:57 amReally? That’s the message you pulled from this article? fuck you
10 years ago at 9:35 amI’m just concerned about losing Greek life. I worded my comment poorly, I apologize.
10 years ago at 12:36 pmRegardless if you worded it wrongly it seems that there was no sympathy in it.. I understand you don’t want greek life to go away but this is a time to empathize with the family and the brothers.
Phi phi to the fallen brother.
10 years ago at 1:48 pmAs we say in Theta Chi, he’s off to the Chapter Eternal. Godspeed, Charlie. See you at the crossroads.
10 years ago at 8:27 amMy condolences to his family and friends and phi phi from gamma theta chapter to the xi chapter in this time of mourning. Rest in peace and may Gods light be shining upon you.
10 years ago at 8:52 amRIP Charlie
10 years ago at 9:24 amEven if there was no foul play, the liberal media will make it the fraternity’s fault
10 years ago at 9:46 amComing from a family of Greek lifes, this news is hard to hear. My father was a delta chi, his father was a delta U. Grandma was a Pi Phi. We all are shocked to keep hearing this news. we send prayers for them and their families each night. Lacing up for quoting the bible, but “He who hath no sin may cast the first stone.” No one has the power to condemn except god. We love everyone in the Greek community, weather you’re a jock, nerd or a guy just looking for some good friends and good times. You are all my brothers. You men mean the world to me. We as a community need to work together to stop what has been going on lately. We need to save the lives of young men across the country and build the word ‘greek’ back to being a word that is in the news for right instead of wrong. Lacing up, that is all.
