Public Universities In Texas Must Now Enforce Campus Carry Law
Professors and students alike at public Texas universities are losing their shit over the state’s recently passed “campus carry” law, which forces public universities to allow licensed gun holders who are 21 years or older to bring their concealed handguns onto the majority of places on campus. The schools applicants are declining their admission, potential new faculty hires are withdrawing their applicants, and one current professor even said that he would be willing to go to court for defying the law.
As the repercussions of the law continue to unfold, a number of schools are already educating faculty on how to approach this new situation. A slide show produced by the University of Houston and presented to its professors suggests that they may want to “be careful when discussing sensitive topics, drop certain topics from their curriculum, not ‘go there’ if you sense anger, and limit student access off hours.” The presentation also outlines that professors are unable to ban guns in classrooms (it’s illegal now), ask for concealed carry holders to declare themselves, make provocative statements, or make cute signs.
From The Guardian:
The presentation is not official university policy, which is expected to be announced in the next couple of months. Jonathan Snow, the senate president, has told the governing body that faculty members are overwhelmingly opposed to the new rule. “It’s a radical law because guns have never really been a part of American university campuses,” Snow said. “I can no longer say there will be no guns in my classroom, that makes me a criminal.”
This begs the question, however, what exactly constitutes someone showing anger? It seems as though professors face a seemingly endless amount of adversity when it comes to teaching nowadays. Not only do they run the risk of having some social justice warrior demonstration popping up in class when they discuss “sensitive topics,” they now have to worry about the unholstering of a firearm in tense situations.
God bless them. Something tells me this is only the beginning of an already tension-filled situation. I guess we will all just have to patiently wait and see how it plays out..

You know nothing, Jon Snow
9 years ago at 10:28 amChicago, NYC, and the state of California have the most stringent and restrictive gun laws in the country. They also still have the most gun related crimes by a landslide. Criminals and pussy creep fucks don’t care.
Boom. Case closed.
9 years ago at 10:36 amThese campus conceal and carry laws are popping up all over the country right now, although they vary from state to state. In the state legislature where I intern, there are two bills allowing for different types of conceal carry, one is for a firearm in your car but out of sight (sorry no gun racks) and the other is an actual in classroom carry. Universities in all these affected states are pretty much losing their shizz over all these proposed laws. Not saying these laws are good or bad, but you may want to check and see if a campus conceal law is coming up in your own state.
9 years ago at 10:45 amThis law is great, embracing your right to bear arms is a power move. The author and all you liberal yahoos in the comment section can go suck one. God-bless Texas not the professors who are shitting themselves. Since when has TFM had a liberal agenda?

9 years ago at 12:37 pmI would love to live in Texas I don’t think I could ever see myself living in New York or San Francisco where these vegan pussy democrats breed
9 years ago at 11:01 amWith almost 90,000,000 gun owners in this country you would think that if we were all as psychotic as the left thinks we are, why isn’t everyone dead? Concealed carry holders are statistically some of the most responsible gun owners and this won’t be a problem. Eat a snickers tfm you’re sounding a lot like a bunch of hippy liberals.

9 years ago at 11:08 amAbsolutely crazy that people are actually afraid of this, you see dozens of people who are carrying every day, who cares if it’s on a college campus, it’s only going to make the campus safer
9 years ago at 11:10 amCampus carry has been going on in Colorado for 13 years. There has been one incident in that time, a female facility member was adjusting her gun and it accidentally discharged. No one was injured, and she was immediately fired, as she should have been. This, coming from a state that has hosted two of the major shootings of our generation, both occurring in marketed gun-free zones. Professors, students, whoever, can say this is going to be the apocalypse til the actual end of time, but criminals do not respect rules or laws. Protection on campus should be present, and now it will be.
9 years ago at 11:14 amI feel safer in my classrooms knowing my peers and I have guns on our waists ready to defend ourselves and our classmates from any radical or insane people threatening our lives.
