Recapping The Story Of Racist Snapchat Sent From A Member Of Alabama’s Chi Omega

chino2

Yesterday was a total mess. This is my attempt to clean it up as best I can.

We were the first outlet to report on the now infamous leaked Snapchat from a member of Chi Omega at the University of Alabama. It showed three young ladies happily posing for a selfie with the caption: “Chi O got NO niggas!!!!!” followed by a series of emojis that come standard with any 18 to 22-year-old girl’s social media posts. That Snapchat is below.

Soon after we published the story, our inboxes got cluster bombed with new information, most of which was attempting to debunk our story. Unable to verify what was true and what was false, we posted several updates throughout the afternoon and early evening in an attempt to stay on top of the story and remain transparent. As it turns out, all the dissenting information we received was an elaborate damage control ploy. Our original story was accurate.

A fake, distorted version of the Snapchat was even sent to us in an attempt to discredit the entire story. Very, very clever. That version is below. Notice the “gg” in “niggas.”

This is the original image we released, not knowing that it had been strategically altered. A do-gooder graphic designer emailed us to inform us of the image’s faults. He included the below screenshot.

Given all the differing information on our desks, we thought it was best to remove the story entirely.

We can now report the original Snapchat’s authenticity, as confirmed by Chi Omega’s national office on their official Facebook page. The member who posted the Snapchat has been removed from Chi Omega’s Nu Beta chapter at Alabama.

Tuscaloosa’s Fox affiliate breaks it down nicely:

I know this is a serious story and should lack any elements of humor, but this reporter knocking on Chi O’s front door just kind of made me laugh. I’m not even sure why. It could be his sorority babe-ready hair, or that “play it cool” look on his face. Or maybe I imagine a pride of giddy sorority girls opening the door and being greeted by a reporter and news camera, and him asking them, “So, are you guys racist or what?” Just funny.

Lastly, we can confirm that Chi Omega actually pledged two African Americans. This unfortunate Snapchat could very well have been one member’s lapse in judgement, and should not reflect the overall mindset of the sorority.

Chi Omega handled this matter internally so this should be the end of it. UA should not be getting involved nor the media but of course the second race is involved everyone all of a sudden thinks they’re off the cast of Animal house and can tell us how we should handle our issues.

If anything it is upsetting to hear that she has gotten kicked out of her chapter. Thats pathetic. So much for unity, eh? That is suppose to be her family and stand behind her not matter what. Yes, she did fuck up, quite hard. Everyone at one point will do something a little stupid while being an active, maybe not to that length of course, but still. That being said all of her so called “sisters” should let her know with all the rage or anger they like that she did fuck up, but at the end of the day she still pledged and has this “family” (which apparently their chapter doesn’t think like that) to go to. Its a shame.

When the issue is racism, it becomes bigger than her chapter. It affects a lot of people. Letting the mistake slide is, in a weird way, condoning racism.

If this were one of my brothers, I’d let him know what an asshole he is, and explain to him why. I wouldn’t kick him to the curb and walk away like some pussy because I’m afraid of what the media thinks.

A sorority is a balance of sisterhood and business. You can act right and stay tight, or you can be a fool and gtfo

You posting this “story” without any facts is like if I wrote an article about how you just love pulling a Sandusky on little boys. Just because people say it all the time on here and it’s clearly out on social media doesn’t mean it’s true, you dumb fucks. Furthermore, what makes you think that this story is true now? Because the girl in question got kicked out? That’s not a good enough reason to say its true especially after it was debunked. Go fuck yourself dorn, maybe you and bacon can do a dirty Sandusky together later tonight, but for now, fuck off.

I always thought if you avoided using a hard “r”, you were good, considering it’s used in almost every rap song. The bigger issue is apparently she’s a liar.

The main issue with the Snapchat wasn’t that she said “niggas.” It was that she was celebrating not bidding any black girls., which is still so odd because they did bid two black girls.
