Tom Petty Was One Of The Best To Ever Do It

It is with a heavy heart that we all mourn the loss of beloved rockstar Tom Petty, who recently passed away after experiencing full cardiac arrest as first reported by TMZ. At just 66 years old and a new grandfather, Petty’s untimely death is extremely tragic.

With a career spanning over 40 years, Petty is one of the most celebrated and accomplished musicians of all time. He’s best known for such hits as “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” and “American Girl” as a member of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and “Free Fallin'” from his solo career.

Tom Petty wrote music straight from the heart, and his songs have served, and continue to serve, as anthems for countless college students and people with impeccable taste in music everywhere. I could not begin to tally the number of times “Runnin’ Down A Dream” has come on and instantly led to my friends and I bringing down the house as Petty’s guitar solo fueled our frenzy. Tom Petty’s music is intergenerational — your parents probably conceived you to the Wildflowers album, yet his anthology is still known, loved, and cherished by today’s youth.

So here’s to you, Tom Petty. You were a rock visionary with the uncanny ability to stay relevant 40+ years later, and you’ll forever live on because of how you bring people together over some of the catchiest tunes ever recorded.

Make sure to throw on some of your favorite Petty songs today and into the weekend.

Surprised they didn’t give this to Wally to try and make a joke out of it.
