RG3 Says He’s The Best QB In The NFL And You Gotta Respect That Kind Of Blind Confidence
Robert Griffin III straight up shat the bed the past two seasons. When he wasn’t either injured or riding the bench for back-up Colt McCoy, he was leading the Redskins on a trail of tears to the bottom of the division. On the field, he was a shell of the promising rookie he was in 2012, but in his own mind, he’s the best quarterback in the game – and he doesn’t have to prove it to you, either.
From ESPN:
“I feel like I’m the best quarterback in the league, and I have to go out and show that,” he told the station. “Any athlete at any level, if they concede to someone else, they’re not a top competitor, they’re not trying to be the best that they can be.
“There’s guys in this league that have done way more than me. But I still view myself as the best because that’s what I work toward every single day.”
“I don’t feel like I have to come out here and show anybody anything or why I’m better than this guy or better than that guy,” Griffin said.
Okay, so first he says he does have to prove himself, then he says he doesn’t, but that whole “I don’t feel like I have to come out here and show anybody anything” statement is a little concerning, especially if you’re a ‘Skins fan. Also, if this season is as miserable as the last, will he still think he’s better than Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, or Andrew Luck?
While claiming to be the best in the game when he hasn’t even come close might make RG3 seem less self-aware than an infant confused by its reflection, you have to respect his blind confidence. It does seem uncharacteristic of a guy like Griffin, though. That’s the kind of statement you’d expect from the meatheaded Gronks and Watts of the league, not the quiet, contemplative former college honors student. I worry that Griffin, a textbook over-thinker, just put even more unnecessary pressure on himself, and that he doesn’t actually believe he’s the best. He seems like too rational of a dude.
For RG3’s sake, I do hope this attitude isn’t feigned. Having the self-assurance to pull off a seemingly impossible task is the first step towards greatness, whether it be talking to the girl who’s way out of your league sitting in the corner of the bar, standing your ground when her massive boyfriend tells you to back off, or dominating the NFL as a top quarterback. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. But if you can’t back your shit up, you’re going to leave the bar with a black eye..

If you want stories about dudes getting their dicks set on fire, you are in the right place.
I’d rather have my QB be cocky than a self-doubting punk. You want everyone on your team to think they’re the best at their job.
10 years ago at 8:28 pmYa worked out well for Johnny manziel
10 years ago at 10:34 pmJohnny just thought he was still in college still. He needs to adjust to the NFL. Its a different game. Johnnys still badass.

10 years ago at 8:43 pmIt’s always the cocky ones that end up hitting the wall and sucking. You don’t see Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, or Peyton Manning bragging about their skill
10 years ago at 9:19 pmThat’s because if you are truly the best, you don’t have to tell people… they already know. RG3 even his great first year wasn’t the best QB. Hell not even the best QB in his draft class.
10 years ago at 10:36 pmARod, Manning and Brady are also white, so there’s that too.
10 years ago at 10:45 pmRodgers and Brady are two of the cockiest players in the world. Brady goes without saying, and just look at Rodgers first few years as a starter, you couldn’t hear about him on a pregame show without hearing about the massive chip on his shoulder. It’s just what makes those guys great.
10 years ago at 8:44 amTom Brady is the fuckin goat
10 years ago at 9:57 pmIn all fairness he did take Baylor to an Alamo bowl victory.

10 years ago at 12:25 pmclaiming youre the best at something statistics prove otherwise. TFM
10 years ago at 10:11 pmI like you boosh but this was stupid. Every professional athlete worth anything should have the “I am the best and I know it” attitude whether they are Tom Brady or tony romo. If you’re playing at that level and you come out and say “ehhh I’m not the best but I’m okay and I’ll just do what I can” then you don’t deserve to be there
