Rick Astley Of “Rick Roll” Fame Is Making His Own Beer

Rick Astley’s song “Never Gonna Give You Up” gained notoriety due to the whole “Rick Rolling” trend a few years back. Since then, he and his song have been synonymous with that particular internet phenomenon. It’s got to be rough being famous for a song that is only well known because it’s so ridiculous that people only use it to fuck with their friends. I guess that’s why our boy Slick Rick is getting into the beer game.

Apparently, Astley is collaborating with a brewery in Denmark to make his own beer. While he knows what he wants his beer to be, a “fruity pilsner lager,” he does not yet have a name for his beer.

Rick Astley is working with a Danish brewery to create a “fruity pilsner lager,” according to the Irish Mirror. A self-dubbed beer lover, Astley just needs a name for his lager, he explained.

“I enjoy a beer with friends and I’m hoping to sell my own brand soon,” he told Weekend magazine, according to the Mirror. “I’ve been working with the Mikkeller brewery in Copenhagen, which was founded 10 years ago by a teacher who made his own beer at home.”

If Astley doesn’t name his beer after that song, he’s failing to capitalize on a huge opportunity. If he has a “Never Gonna Give You Up Pilsner” or something like that, people will buy it just to say they had the Rick Roll beer. Actually, Rick Roll Rye IPA has a nice ring to it. Write that down and keep it for your next beer, Astley. You could even make a prank out of this beer that combines Rick Rolling with icing. The possibilities are endless.

Nailed it. While I’m certainly no Rick Astley fan (is anyone?), I am a beer fan. If I see his beer on the shelf or at the bar, I’ll give it try.
