Last time I checked as a student in school you can bow your head at your desk, no one is stopping you. Since when has a teacher ever told anyone that you can’t put your head down for a minute.
I attended a public school (okay, okay) in an affluent white suburb. This suburb is Edmond, OK, perhaps best known for having the cross removed from the city seal back in the 90s, so it’s as sanitized and PC of a suburb as there is. Every day after 9/11, they would come over the intercom and give us one minute to “reflect, meditate, pray, or engage in other silent activity”. So there was a vocalized option of prayer in my public, secular middle and high schools up until I graduated in 2008; I assume they still do this. Also, plenty of teachers had wreaths on their doors, students wore Santa hats, and FCA met regularly throughout the year. This rhetoric of “the war on Christmas” or “war on Christians” is bullshit. Are there examples of prayer and Christmas celebration being stifled? Yes, but it isn’t an epidemic like Perry wanted you to believe, and most of those instances stepped over the line of separating church and state. There is no reason students should have some 45 year old ex-Education major who isn’t a minister lead them in prayer.
rick perry is retarded. that is a fact. listen to the guy speak or debate. also, whatever happened to separation of church and state? our country wasn’t even founded on religion and heterosexuality or any ideals related to either. people came to America for religious and political freedom. A fraternity man or not, he worries about things that really have nothing to do with the future of this country and is not a good choice.
