Rolling Stone Admits To Misplacing Trust In Alleged UVA Rape Victim, Issues Apology

On November 19, Rolling Stone published a story recounting an alleged rape that took place inside University of Virginia’s Phi Kappa Psi house in 2012. The article, A Rape on Campus: A Brutal Assault and Struggle for Justice at UVA, detailed the entire ordeal leading up to, and during, the alleged 7-on-1 sexual assault, as recounted by the alleged victim, “Jackie.” The article also throws dirt on the fraternity and the university with the accusation that they covered up the horrific incident, as well as similar cases of sexual assault in the past, to protect their reputation.

A day after the article was published, the Phi Psi house was trashed and graffitied by outraged members of the community. The story made headlines across major news publications, soiling the names of the Phi Psi chapter and the university.

Just yesterday, we reported that major media outlets were questioning the legitimacy of Rolling Stone’s article, pointing out that there were numerous discrepancies in Jackie’s account.

Today, in a formal apology by Managing Editor Will Dana, titled, “A Note to Our Readers,” Rolling Stone admits that the information they received from Jackie may have some inaccuracies. They are now saying the trust originally placed in Jackie was “misplaced.”

From Rolling Stone:

In the face of new information, there now appear to be discrepancies in Jackie’s account, and we have come to the conclusion that our trust in her was misplaced. We were trying to be sensitive to the unfair shame and humiliation many women feel after a sexual assault and now regret the decision to not contact the alleged assaulters to get their account. We are taking this seriously and apologize to anyone who was affected by the story.

What a terrible, sad, unfortunate mess.

The people who should feel the dumbest are those liberal fucks who were picketing on their yard and vandalizing their house without knowing the facts.

I’m sure they’ll shrug it off, and get ready for the next outrage. No harm no foul (if its a guy or org they already hate, that is).

Glad that the truth is coming out, but like all false rape allegations, this genie can’t go back in the bottle. The damage is already done. My thoughts are with the Phi Psi gents who have had their reputations dragged through the mud.

To their credit, they acknowledged that they were stupid for piling on in their typical way. “This is really, really bad. It means, of course, that when I dismissed Richard Bradley and Robby Soave’s doubts about the story and called them “idiots” for picking apart Jackie’s account, I was dead fucking wrong, and for that I sincerely apologize. It means that my conviction that Sabrina Rubin Erdely had fact-checked her story in ways that were not visible to the public was also wrong. It’s bad, bad, bad all around.” Their comment section is hilarious though. So much butthurt because the story wasn’t true.

But also to be fair, their initial story was childish and personally attacked anyone who questioned this story. She even waived her Columbia masters in journalism degree in their face to prove how right she was. In other words, they actively tried to stop people from digging deeper and we wouldn’t have ever found out the truth if we listened to them. Luckily no one gives a fuck what Jezebel has to say on anything.

Sadly, it isn’t. They are all pissed off over there. Because an innocent fraternity got smeared? No – because they are worried that this story will hurt the reputation of anti rape activists in the future. The bitches over there are such sick fucks that they actually WANTED this horrible gang rape story to be true because it would help advance their agenda.

I noticed that too…I’ve never seen a group of people so pissed that a chick DID NOT get raped.

Its a damn shame, because at this point their name is going to be tarnished for a very, very long time. Regardless of legitimacy. Once that idea is placed in the student body’s head, theres no coming back.
