Rutgers Student Government Wants To Change Its Mascot Because It’s White And Male
At what point will mascots just cease to exist? For decades, Rutgers’ mascot has been this goofy and creepy looking knight. No one has complained because they have other things to complain about, such as the performance of their athletic teams.
That all changed when the school’s student government called for a student makeover. The result was a bill passed that wants to see more gender and ethnic diversity in the Scarlett Knight to better reflect the student body.
From NJ.com:
A bill passed by the Rutgers University Student Assembly calls for more gender and ethnic diversity in the mascot costume, according to a report by The Daily Targum, the school’s student newspaper.
Emmet Brennan, student assembly parliamentarian, came up with the idea after noticing the mascot is light-skinned with blue eyes, which he said isn’t representative of the school’s diversity.
If they really wanted the mascot to reflect the school’s population, then it should be orange from all that spray tanning people in New Jersey do. While we are at it, there are other schools that should change their mascot to better reflect the student body.
• The Florida Gators should make their mascot wear jorts.
• The Wisconsin Badgers should cover their mascot in even more hair.
• Michigan State’s Sparty should be dead to better reflect the population of Detroit.
• The Missouri Tiger should be wearing a hoodie.
• SMU’s pony should be upgraded to an Arabian — the most expensive horse that money can buy.
• Alabama’s elephant should have a missing tusk, and a female counterpart that is also its cousin.
LSU might also want to consider changing from being the Tigers to being the corn dogs. Just a thought. The only mascot who truly represents their full student body is West Virginia’s Mountaineer because he’s your typical redneck..

Picture this, just imagine if the mascot was already colored and the student body wanted to change it to white. There would be riots everywhere.
10 years ago at 1:54 pmThis is another example of racism against the white male. Media outlets and hate mongers hide behind sayings like “black lives matter”. I have never looked down upon anyone of any race. Why should I be treated like I am personally responsible for other race’s inability to motivate themselves to succeed?
10 years ago at 1:58 pmBecause you’re a white male. It’s an uphill battle we’re not used to fighting, and quite frankly it’s entirely judgemental and embarrassing. Our country is so backwards right now it’s sickening.
10 years ago at 6:00 pmI agree. I would even suggest that the dividing lines are stronger now, due to the recent events involving law enforcement, than they have been since the Civil Rights Act of 1964. We aren’t talking about desegregation, we are now arguing rights under the law.

10 years ago at 2:03 pm50 bucks says Emmet Brennan is a complete tool–and has never kissed a girl.
Have to love how anything demded as white is racist and removing anything that’s white like a fucking harmless mascot is seen as “good” and stopping racism. Like holy shit feudal knights were white.
10 years ago at 2:20 pmFirst they change our alma matter. Now, they change the mascot. What’s next, co-Ed fraternities and sports teams?
10 years ago at 2:24 pmdon’t even put those ideas in their heads.
10 years ago at 5:45 pmthis does not make proud to be a new jerseyan
10 years ago at 2:24 pmI’m not sure how anyone could be proud of being from New Jersey.
10 years ago at 5:47 pmIt’s only a matter of time before people die hard fans of the color purple go after the Syracuse Orange.
10 years ago at 2:27 pmDamn liberals, this is reverse racism at its finest
10 years ago at 2:48 pmConsidering Rutgers was founded by Dutch immigrants, a white, blue eye’d knight seems like the right choice; but, you know, who cares about tradition and history…
10 years ago at 3:35 pmWhy is it okay to be racist towards white people now? If the mascot was black and someone wanted to change it all the liberals would flip their shit.
