SDSU’s Delta Sigma Phi Kicked Off Campus For Waving Dildos At Anti-Sexual Assault Activists

There is a fine line between overt stupidity and fraternity shenanigans. Waving sex toys in the air and throwing eggs at sexual assault awareness activists would be classified as overt stupidity.

We reported on the incident at San Diego State several weeks ago. At the time, we had no information regarding the identity of the perpetrators. All we knew was that a gaggle of morons saw a sexual assault awareness rally as an ideal time to present their dildos to the world while simultaneously pelting activists with eggs.

As it turns out, the inhabitants of Delta Sigma Phi were the organizers of the impromptu show-and-tell. The university took note, and the fraternity has been removed from campus for at least two years.

From Huffington Post:

San Diego State University has removed fraternity Delta Sigma Phi from campus, the school announced Tuesday, after members were accused of waving sex toys and throwing eggs at anti-rape demonstrators.

Citing a “consistent pattern of policy violations,” including harassment of Take Back The Night marchers on Nov. 21, as well as “significant hazing and alcohol misconduct issues,” the university is closing the Delta Sigma Phi chapter, which will not be allowed to petition for recolonization until fall 2016 at the earliest.

Along with giving the university an aneurism from its hijinks, Delta Sigma Phi’s national headquarters is in no mood to put up with the chapter any longer, either.

The national office of Delta Sigma Phi said Thursday in a statement that it was closing the SDSU chapter due to “widespread member misconduct issues,” adding that the “Fraternity cannot, and will not, tolerate blatant disregard toward our policies and standards for members and chapters.”

Don’t be fucking stupid. It’s simple.

Being a member of a fraternity here at SDSU, I felt the need to make an account to comment on this matter. It’s unfortunate to see any member of Greek life kicked off, but this story is missing a lot of parts, and that’s mostly due to the mainstream media’s failure to do it’s job. The egg throwing did occur during the march, but it was not members of delta sig, it was an anonymous group of students throwing them out of a car as they drove by. It just was thrown into the story to make them look worse. As unfortunate as that is, they did indeed have a sexual assault occur at their house a week prior to this event. All this on top of hazing allegations, nobody is surprised they were kicked off. They had just chartered last year, so they were all 18 and 19 year old kids and as terrible as the situation is, that’s what happens when you leave those people in complete control of an organization. Just a big black eye for SDSU all around.

Thank you for clearing up the egg throwing, that was definitely not the members of DSP The sexual assault allegations, as well as the hazing allegations were never confirmed. In fact the girl retracted her sexual assault claim. When the media around the world got ahold of the dildo-waving, the school and national fraternity had to cover their asses. It was easy to make this out to be “widespread member misconduct issues” and suspend the fraternity.

The media (TFM specifically) needs to realize that what they say about fraternities does matter, and their faulty reporting can cause a lot of trouble. It’s stories like these that blow small stories out of proportion and force our country in a direction of hypersensitivity. Shouldn’t a website devoted to fraternities be representing the fraternities’ sides of these stories anyway? No one told the story of the sexual assault protestors yelling “fuck frats” as they marched past fraternity row. In fact, TFM has contributed nothing to the ongoing discussion of sexual assault on college campuses, with many studies now finding that 18-24 year old students are safer than non-students.

Fraternity members are being blamed for a terrible crime that they statistically aren’t more likely to commit, and they’re pissed off about it. Websites like this should be committed to protecting and advancing fraternities in America, and TFM seems to be doing quite the opposite.

This so much. TFM you’re fucking over chapters by posting about this shit. Yes it may be the only fraternity related content you post for weeks, but it’s undoubtedly doing harm. You fuckers always have an article up about how houses fucked up but where are the articles celebrating all the great things greeks do?

Remember that whole Salem witch thing? Can that happen again, but with liberals?

At least they didn’t falsely accuse a fraternity of gang rape, causing their home to be vandalized, and members to endure threats of physical harm.

Anti-rape groups and fraternities are not on opposite sides of the aisle on the issue of rape. EVERY MAN AND WOMAN SHOULD HATE RAPE. The problem is that anti-rape groups make false accusations and get to say whatever they want about the fraternities because they don’t have IFC and nationals watching them. The media (including TFM) will always take the side of the “helpless liberal.” I wish some colleges would hold these groups as accountable as they hold the fraternities.

I’m very much against liberal suppression of freedom of speech, but in this case I don’t see that as much. A fraternity has to be very careful of how they present themselves to the college, as the university does reserve the right to remove the fraternities it allowed in. Considering this chapter already had a sexual assault there earlier in the semester, they should have layed low and played it smart as they were already in hot water. You can argue if it was wrong or not for them to wave plastic dicks at an anti-rape parade, but it was undeniably stupid. Stupidity on that scale can get you kicked off campus, and that’s all there is to it.

The sexual assault at their fraternity happened the day after the protest so the two aren’t exactly correlated. And I believe you shouldn’t judge an entire fraternity based off of a few shitheads that make poor decisions.

If a chapter decides to initiate a few shitheads that make poor decisions then they should pay the price for said poor decisions. Each brother represents his fraternity.
