SEC Attempts to Steal Big 12 Legacy?

OKLAHOMA—Barry Sanders Jr. may be a lifelong Oklahoma State University fan because his father played ball there, but that doesn’t mean a face-to-face with Nick Saban won’t sway the recruit. Saban visited the Heritage Hall campus on Wednesday in an alleged attempt to convince the Big 12 legacy to attend the 2010 BCS National Championship winning University. Apparently, Sanders Jr. plans on attending junior day for Alabama, and is recovering from foot surgery.

TFM received this picture Wednesday, Jan. 5 from an exclusive submission. Photo was submitted by @singlejack007.

Under the NCAA ‘s rules and regulations, from Nov. 28 until Jan. 29 is an open contact period for college coaches.

During this time, coaches are allowed to visit recruits off campus. Coaches can make only one visit per week to individual recruits.

However, it’s not as open-and-shut as that, though. In between that time, there are also ‘dead’ and ‘quiet’ periods.

From Dec. 20 through Jan. 3 was a dead period where coaching staffs were only allowed to have contact with recruits who have been admitted for mid-year enrollment. The next ‘quiet period’ is Jan. 9 (Sunday), so Saban followed NCAA guidelines in his visit.

It’s sad how much a player can get recognition from just being someone’s son. He plays at a 3A high school and he’s nothing special. I don’t understand all the special attention

Have you seen footage of this kid?? You must be a Sooner who’s pissed he eliminated your school the day he picked up a football. If it were just OSU looking at him, I’d agree with you, but 2 of the best schools in college football also want this kid. Saban knows talent.

I agree. I’m surprised Saban didn’t chase this wannabe fratstar high schooler down and break his camera while saying “roll tide”, shaking Sanders’ hand, and driving away in his frathoe.

Yes, it is. You’re the idiot for not being remotely aware of NCAA rules.

Please cite a source for the rule stating that the bump rule doesn’t apply during the dead period.

Inasmuch as it DOES apply, this may very well have NOT been a dead period.

T Boone Pickens could always offer this kid a “job” or a little sumthin sumthin’ to come to OSU. BTW, TBP is a SAE.

Its not a violation..he wasnt there to talk to him but to watch film with his coach. “bumping in” to a recruit and just saying hi isn’t a violation which is exactly what’s happening in this pic

Good thing neither his head coach nor his athletic director were at the school when Saban showed up… Get your facts straight. You don’t deserve to use the T. Boone name.

I went to the same school as Barry Jr. and that picture is in the Upper School building (since it’s a K-12 school.) The athletic facility is a good 700-1000 yards away. This can’t be construed as accidentally bumping into him. I don’t think that the NCAA is known for going after somebody for doing this (and Saban has done this before), but the intent to “bump” into Barry was definitely there.

a fellow haller saban has already been confronted by the ncaa for this. saban was being shown around the school by hc and oc andy bogert and dc mark fattems. the blame should be on them bc they invited barry over

Notice the bulge in Saban’s pants? He’s either really turned onto the kid or pulling $250K out of his pocket. Standard Bama practice since Bear Bryant’s first year.
