Shipwreck Survivors Makes It To Shore, Thanks To Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'”

A few days ago, a small boat capsized off the coast of Kauai, one of the Hawaiian islands, after being hit by a large wave. The three people on board could easily have died. However, they didn’t. Thanks to quick thinking, perseverance, and a hit song by Journey, all three made it safely to shore.

Yeah, you read that right. Journey.

Zack Romanak, his 10-year-old son Noah, and a tourist named Brad Warren were holding onto the flipped boat for almost four hours. Clinging for survival, they knew they wouldn’t be able to stay out in the dark waters much longer. Warren broke his femur in three places from the force of the wave that flipped the boat, and his prosthetic hip was also broken. He was in excruciating pain. He was having a hard time holding onto the boat, he was getting pummeled by the onslaught of waves, and all three were in great danger.

Romanak, the captain of the vessel, was fortunately able to swim into the boat and grab two life vests, giving one to his son and one to the injured Warren. As the night dragged on, he realized that Warren’s condition was worsening. Then, though they were more than a mile from shore, the three received what I can only assume was a sign from God.

Coming from somewhere on the shore, they heard the sweet melody of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’.” That, coupled with a shooting star, served as a sign that they should swim toward shore.

Braving dangerous currents and sharks, the three made their way toward the sound of the music. Romanak led the group, followed by his son, who was followed by Warren; all three held onto each other in a chain. After roughly 30 minutes, they made it to shore.

I have to wonder what other songs played during that time. I can assume, since they were blasting such a great song, that the folks on land were also playing some other awesome jams. If you’re going to have to fight for your survival, you at least want to do it to a good soundtrack.

Once on dry land, people from the party where the music was coming from rushed to assist the three shipwrecked survivors, and first responders arrived shortly thereafter. I like to think that the partygoers were able to round up a few drinks for Warren and Romanak, but who knows?

In all, it was miraculous that the three people aboard that boat made it back to land alive. Thankfully, they didn’t stop believin’ and followed the music to safety..
