Sigma Chi At University Of Oregon Raises Money To Send Sick Kid To Disney World

I usually write about the ridiculous and the downright disturbing. My last few columns have involved professorial stripteases to Hitler montages, PornHub closing out a lecture on advanced food biochemistry, and Alabama’s police doing a Harlem Shakedown of students trying to film a video to cash in on a YouTube meme.

Today I wanted to cover something positive, so here we have a story about Sigma Chi raising over $30,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a portion of which is helping a local kid in Oregon go to Disney World. Even in the deepest, darkest reaches of the comments section, that has to warm all of your hearts.

Two years ago Landen was diagnosed with lukemia. Since that time the boy has undergone chemotherapy.

“He’s been battling with that. He has responded really well to everything and he is getting better every day,” Stiner said.

As a part of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Landen will soon be taking a trip to Disneyworld.

The Sigma Chi Fraternity was able to make Landen’s wish come true with their Derby Days event.

Several sororities compete in series of week long competitions to win a championship. Last year they raised $30,000 for the Make a Wish foundation and this year they are hoping to do $35,000.

Dammit. It’s dusty in here or something. I need a tissue.

But seriously, this is 100% A+ positive effort from Sigma Chi at University of Oregon. Good work, gentlemen. You were able to make the life of one very sick young kid better, and that is definitely something that all of our founders would approve of.

As much as I love stories about national scandals and the like, because they’re the lame, 3-legged deer of comedy targets and the articles practically write themselves, there are a lot of these stories out there. Stories of us doing things, despite our sometimes borderline degenerate alcoholic nature, that really give back and help the community. So keep up the good work, Sigma Chi at Oregon.
