Sigma Chis At Tennessee-Martin Steal 1,000 Student Newspapers, Have Never Heard Of The Internet

The Pacer is the student newspaper of the University of Tennessee at Martin. According to this article from–you guessed it–The Pacer, they print 2,000 hard copies biweekly. It’s a free publication. The Pacer is also available on the Internet.

Last week, The Pacer ran a story titled Pacer Addresses YOUniversity Issues. I didn’t read it (tl;dr) but according to a knowledgable source from UTM, the publication took a stance “against their student government campaign platform.” This upset some people–most notably two UTM Sigma Chis, Bryan Swayze and Sean O’Brien. They decided they didn’t want anyone to read the story.

Of course, the only way to ensure no one reads a story that is printed 2,000 times and dispersed around campus–and is also published and readily available on the World Wide Web–is to steal roughly 1,000 of the 2,000 copies of the printed newspapers from the racks around campus.

They were caught, obviously. Security cameras popped them.

In a hilarious twist of irony, The Pacer naturally followed up by running a story yesterday about Swayze and O’Brien’s poorly executed newspaper heist. You can read it HERE. It’s a story from The Pacer about two guys stealing copies of The Pacer. It’s to be printed 2,000 times and dispersed around campus. It’s also available on the Internet at thepacer.net.

Next week’s headline in The Pacer: “Swayze and O’Brien Respond to Defamatory Article Posted Online, Steal 800 Laptops From Campus”
