Sigma Nu At OU Will Soon Have The Nicest House In The Country
Per a tipster who brought this to our attention, “Sigma Nu at the University of Oklahoma is building a new house that essentially looks like a 5-star hotel.”
Well said. It legitimately does look like a 5-star boutique hotel you would find in the historic district of some charming U.S. destination city. My initial reaction, other than the obvious HOLY SHIT!, is that I really love the L-shape design with the front entrance and patio areas being on the corner. Naturally, they are going with the classic red brick facade that is a staple of American fraternity houses. Very sharp.
From the chapter’s website:
The future Sigma Nu house will be in the same location at 1300 College Ave as it has been for the last 40 years. The architect, Steven Newby (ΔE 1373), is the grandson of the chapter’s founder Errett Newby (ΔE 1).
Unfortunately, this is the only rendering I’m able to find. I also can’t track down any specific details of the house. As noted in the above photo, the home is scheduled to be completed some time this year, so you’d have to think the construction is well under way at this point. I just can’t find any photos of this fraternal palace anywhere.
Here’s a photo of their lot I found on the chapter Facebook page, but that’s it:
The fraternity arms race is a fun one to watch. Houses just keep getting bigger and better as the never-ending battle of landing bluechip rushees never takes a day off. Let’s hope these guys are able to contain their excitement and hang onto their new house, unlike the poor bastards of Virginia Tech’s Sig Ep chapter who had to hand over the keys to their brand new $5 million house to independents.

12 years ago at 3:15 pmWhat’s with this “nice house” bullshit? If your frat isn’t littered with 80 years of damage from raging then fuck you.
12 years ago at 3:16 pmDon’t completely agree, but there is something to be said for being able to destroy some walls/furniture/whatever without the complete wrath of the alumni association… and having house history and all that jazz…
12 years ago at 3:33 pmAgree that I prefer columns on a fraternity house also.
12 years ago at 3:19 pmAnother question, I was under the impression Sig Nu at OU closed up shop and was going to have to re-colonize. Are those lucky bastard newbies going to get to waltz in off the street and live in this palace??
Alumni did close up shop. Re-colonizing is the plan (or so I’ve heard from some of the alums I know). But, as I said in my original comment, there is no way that house is ready anytime soon.
12 years ago at 3:29 pmDepends on your definition of anytime soon. Expected completion time is next year.
12 years ago at 11:14 pmHave not even broken ground. And the lot they are building on is no where near big enough to accommodate a house that size. They split their old lot in half and ATO is currently building a house (about 50% done, it looks like).
12 years ago at 3:24 pmActually we have plenty of room for the house and for parking… Those type of things are checked in advance…
12 years ago at 11:11 pm^ Look at this guy, getting on here to make sure everyone’s facts are straight. Way to go, pal. Enjoy your Friday.

12 years ago at 3:37 pmLooks I found my new favorite frat house to hang out in

12 years ago at 4:17 pmGotta love L shaped houses; plenty of space to hide things from the wandering eyes of GDIs in back.
12 years ago at 3:55 pmWell, looks like I’m transferring…
12 years ago at 4:03 pmWhy, Sigma Nu just came back on campus last year, they’ve got about 15 members and are run by OSU sigma nus.
12 years ago at 1:52 pmLay off the bourbon, Ron. And the drugs while you’re at it. You’re hallucinating. You only missed the mark by about 50 new members. OSU guys came down during formal recruitment to help. They’ve had no involvement since…too busy kicking ass in Stillwater.
12 years ago at 5:47 pmAll I see is a mountain of debt. Plus having your house look like a hotel/dorm isn’t a good thing.
12 years ago at 4:23 pmGood for them. Pretty sure FIJI literally owned their last house.
