Sigma Nu At OU Will Soon Have The Nicest House In The Country

Per a tipster who brought this to our attention, “Sigma Nu at the University of Oklahoma is building a new house that essentially looks like a 5-star hotel.”

Well said. It legitimately does look like a 5-star boutique hotel you would find in the historic district of some charming U.S. destination city. My initial reaction, other than the obvious HOLY SHIT!, is that I really love the L-shape design with the front entrance and patio areas being on the corner. Naturally, they are going with the classic red brick facade that is a staple of American fraternity houses. Very sharp.

From the chapter’s website:

The future Sigma Nu house will be in the same location at 1300 College Ave as it has been for the last 40 years. The architect, Steven Newby (ΔE 1373), is the grandson of the chapter’s founder Errett Newby (ΔE 1).

Unfortunately, this is the only rendering I’m able to find. I also can’t track down any specific details of the house. As noted in the above photo, the home is scheduled to be completed some time this year, so you’d have to think the construction is well under way at this point. I just can’t find any photos of this fraternal palace anywhere.

Here’s a photo of their lot I found on the chapter Facebook page, but that’s it:

The fraternity arms race is a fun one to watch. Houses just keep getting bigger and better as the never-ending battle of landing bluechip rushees never takes a day off. Let’s hope these guys are able to contain their excitement and hang onto their new house, unlike the poor bastards of Virginia Tech’s Sig Ep chapter who had to hand over the keys to their brand new $5 million house to independents.

They will have no where near the nicest house in the country. As previously stated they sold half the lot to ATO, haven’t even started building yet, have no money, very few members and given the space in the lot they have left it will be maybe half the size of the FIJI house next door, which arguably IS the nicest fraternity house in the nation.

You have no idea what you are talking about. They recolonized last fall and recruited 68 guys, 60 in the fall and 8 in the spring. The new house house will be almost identical in square footage to the FIJI house, but will actually be taller. Designed as single occupancy rooms, no gang bathrooms like everybody else on campus. The style is Cherokee Gothic, like the classic architecture of most of the buidlings on campus. Fund raising is going very well. Groundbreaking will occur in the second half of August, 2013, and the house will be complete in time for the chpater to move in in August, 2014.

Here’s to the fraternity house that looks like it’s about to collapse. With its broken windows, peeling paint, and broken walls. There’s not much in the way of furniture, because the non essentials have been set to fire. The walls are spray painted with letters and odes to sluts. The door hinges are off, from many a visit by the cops. A trip to the attic brings back the most painful week of your life, but you somehow look back with nostalgia. You wouldn’t bring your family here, but there’s no better place to kick it with your brothers. This place can sustain a rager in the high hundreds; and with a few good pledges pass inspection in the morning. Sixty new people living together in a complex is not a house, it’s a dorm.
