Six Missouri Phi Kappa Thetas Arrested After “Hide-and-Seek” Game Gone Awry

Uh oh. Looks like we have some trouble brewing at the University of Missouri.

Six Phi Kappa Thetas were arrested after the wrong eyes (read: people not affiliated with Greek life) caught a glimpse of some good, old fashioned pledge/active…bonding. Apparently a tradition within the fraternity, a group of pledges planned to walk out of class mid-lecture. At this point — per tradition — a small group of actives pursued them, caught them, and threw them into a van. Classic case of capture the pledge, if you ask me. But not everyone found it so funny.

Per the Columbia Daily Tribune:

Weimer said MUPD officers were called to Lathrop Hall on campus after several students saw what they thought was a person being assaulted. Weimer said several members of Phi Kappa Theta had chased down and grabbed two pledge members who were then put in a van. One of the pledges had his hands tied behind his back, but neither person was injured, Weimer said. He described the game as a version of hide-and-seek.

By using photos and making contact with Phi Kappa Theta members, Weimer said officers identified the six members involved in the event and they were arrested and released on summonses.

Luckily for the actives, the pledges aren’t seeking legal retribution.

The pledges who were grabbed and put in the van aren’t pressing any charges, Weimer said.

If anything, these boys’ pledgeship will be a piece of fucking cake from here on out.

Neither the fraternity, nor the Office of Greek Life at Missouri had any comment on the incident. No charges have been filed, and those arrested have a court date scheduled for 9 A.M. on January 23, 2015.

I’m confused as to how, as of December 20th, any fraternity is still in their pledge season. Do y’all just not initiate your kids in the fall semester or what?

I’m Greek at mizzou and a lot of houses initiate their fall pledges the first or second week of february I don’t know why

Or maybe they have to make a certain GPA to be initiated. So they wait until grades come out from 1st semester and they initiate early in the spring when everyone returns from break.

Baylor requires 12 hours before someone can apply so usually Spring semester. Missouri had their last finals on Friday so this report is probably from something that happened last week.

It happens. I got my bid in February, wasn’t initiated until first week of October.

Brothers are less busy the beginning of spring semester for initiation and fun week with no finals.

Fall Pledges Hell Week every January = Fratmas for actives coming back home early from break. No school, let alone finals, all “fun”

Are you fucking serious? I was a pledge from Sept 11 to Jan 25. Had I gotten to college a couple years before, I would have been a pledge for 365 days.

Luckily for the *pledges*, the pledges aren’t seeking legal retribution

The article (correct me if I’m wrong) makes it seem like the pledges weren’t in on it.

So you have people abducting people against their will and throwing them into a van. On what planet does that not warrant an arrest or cause bystanders to want to call the police?

Good point. I would think it’s common sense to do pledge escapes in the middle of the night so there’s less of a chance of witnesses or cops

If the pledges did a walkout then they were in on it. They should be initiated in already but this point though.

Calling police from a bystander is understandable, but arresting these guys after hearing the story behind it is fucking ridiculous.

I can tell you first hand, Columbia PD is a joke. they would much rather get college students for an MIP or DUI than try and stop multiple drug deals happening literally blocks from their station.

Geeds talk and protest about how justice is corrupted, how there are killers, rapists, and terrorist out there harming this great country, but instead those same Geed fucks rather focus on fucking over a fraternity for doing something they are not a part of but wish they were. Fuck GDI’s

I used to be a Phi Kap at mizzou, and it sounds like the annual walk out. All the pledges try to escape for a weekend, usually to go to a pledge brother’s lake house or they get a bunch of hotel rooms out of town. Looks like this group of pledges is literally the worst pledge class ever.
