Six Missouri Phi Kappa Thetas Arrested After “Hide-and-Seek” Game Gone Awry
Uh oh. Looks like we have some trouble brewing at the University of Missouri.
Six Phi Kappa Thetas were arrested after the wrong eyes (read: people not affiliated with Greek life) caught a glimpse of some good, old fashioned pledge/active…bonding. Apparently a tradition within the fraternity, a group of pledges planned to walk out of class mid-lecture. At this point — per tradition — a small group of actives pursued them, caught them, and threw them into a van. Classic case of capture the pledge, if you ask me. But not everyone found it so funny.
Per the Columbia Daily Tribune:
Weimer said MUPD officers were called to Lathrop Hall on campus after several students saw what they thought was a person being assaulted. Weimer said several members of Phi Kappa Theta had chased down and grabbed two pledge members who were then put in a van. One of the pledges had his hands tied behind his back, but neither person was injured, Weimer said. He described the game as a version of hide-and-seek.
By using photos and making contact with Phi Kappa Theta members, Weimer said officers identified the six members involved in the event and they were arrested and released on summonses.
Luckily for the actives, the pledges aren’t seeking legal retribution.
The pledges who were grabbed and put in the van aren’t pressing any charges, Weimer said.
If anything, these boys’ pledgeship will be a piece of fucking cake from here on out.
Neither the fraternity, nor the Office of Greek Life at Missouri had any comment on the incident. No charges have been filed, and those arrested have a court date scheduled for 9 A.M. on January 23, 2015. .

I would be screwed, I always skip my 9AMs.
11 years ago at 1:01 pmI’m confused as to how, as of December 20th, any fraternity is still in their pledge season. Do y’all just not initiate your kids in the fall semester or what?
11 years ago at 1:06 pmOr that classes are still going on.
11 years ago at 1:09 pmI’m Greek at mizzou and a lot of houses initiate their fall pledges the first or second week of february I don’t know why
11 years ago at 1:40 pmOr maybe they have to make a certain GPA to be initiated. So they wait until grades come out from 1st semester and they initiate early in the spring when everyone returns from break.
11 years ago at 1:45 pmBaylor requires 12 hours before someone can apply so usually Spring semester. Missouri had their last finals on Friday so this report is probably from something that happened last week.
11 years ago at 1:47 pm“The incident took place around 10:20 a.m. Dec. 5.”
11 years ago at 1:51 pmIt happens. I got my bid in February, wasn’t initiated until first week of October.
11 years ago at 1:56 pmBrothers are less busy the beginning of spring semester for initiation and fun week with no finals.
11 years ago at 3:15 pmFall Pledges Hell Week every January = Fratmas for actives coming back home early from break. No school, let alone finals, all “fun”
11 years ago at 8:47 pmAre you fucking serious? I was a pledge from Sept 11 to Jan 25. Had I gotten to college a couple years before, I would have been a pledge for 365 days.
11 years ago at 9:16 pmLuckily for the *pledges*, the pledges aren’t seeking legal retribution
11 years ago at 1:08 pmArrested for this? You’ve got to be fucking kidding me. What a joke.
11 years ago at 1:09 pmThe article (correct me if I’m wrong) makes it seem like the pledges weren’t in on it.
So you have people abducting people against their will and throwing them into a van. On what planet does that not warrant an arrest or cause bystanders to want to call the police?
11 years ago at 4:46 pmGood point. I would think it’s common sense to do pledge escapes in the middle of the night so there’s less of a chance of witnesses or cops
11 years ago at 5:29 pmIf the pledges did a walkout then they were in on it. They should be initiated in already but this point though.
11 years ago at 5:59 pmCalling police from a bystander is understandable, but arresting these guys after hearing the story behind it is fucking ridiculous.
11 years ago at 7:25 pmI can tell you first hand, Columbia PD is a joke. they would much rather get college students for an MIP or DUI than try and stop multiple drug deals happening literally blocks from their station.
11 years ago at 8:21 amWhat’s wrong with drug deals?..
11 years ago at 10:43 amDon’t worry about Blue, he’s legit.
11 years ago at 1:13 pm“You tell anyone about this I’ll fuckin kill you.” Classic.
11 years ago at 10:26 pmYou win this time pledges.
11 years ago at 1:35 pmFalse. Pledges never win.
11 years ago at 1:44 pmGeeds talk and protest about how justice is corrupted, how there are killers, rapists, and terrorist out there harming this great country, but instead those same Geed fucks rather focus on fucking over a fraternity for doing something they are not a part of but wish they were. Fuck GDI’s
11 years ago at 2:01 pmI used to be a Phi Kap at mizzou, and it sounds like the annual walk out. All the pledges try to escape for a weekend, usually to go to a pledge brother’s lake house or they get a bunch of hotel rooms out of town. Looks like this group of pledges is literally the worst pledge class ever.
11 years ago at 2:41 pmFucking liberals…
11 years ago at 1:20 amWhat exactly are they being arrested for?
