Study Confirms What Everyone Already Knows: Southern Accents Are The Most Attractive
A recent study by dating website Cupid.com confirmed what those below the Mason-Dixon have known for centuries: Southern accents are just plain sexy.
Of the 2000 participants in the study, and astounding 36.5% agreed that a Southern drawl was the most attractive. In other news: grass is still green, gravity still works correctly, and your pledges are still completely incapable of finishing their assigned tasks.
While the first place finish is far from surprising, the nitty gritty details of the study caught me slightly off guard. It turns out that 45% of men surveyed prefer a Southern accent compared to only 28% of women. You would think that the percentage of women would be much higher considering how successful the notoriously mediocre artist known as Luke Bryan is across the country.
This Southern superiority is all well and good, but the remainder of the list is a little questionable. New York accents somehow came in second place despite the fact that every person who commands one sounds like they were dropped on their head a few too many times as a child.
According to the study, 23% of women questioned preferred their men with a Yankee inflection, which forced me to conclude that 23% of women questioned must have been New Yorkers who wouldn’t know an attractive accent if it sang them a lullaby.
The rest of the top accents are admittedly less interesting. While I’m sure some people will celebrate the fact that New Jersey accents tied with the Canadians in the bottom middle of the pack, all I can think about is how undeniably sexy a girl with a slight Southern drawl can be.
Ladies, don’t feel self conscious when the Yanks and hippies of the world think you’re unintelligent because you used the word “y’all” one too many times. You now have scientific proof that about 50% of all guys will find you attractive regardless of their opinion on your IQ. Sure, being both sexy and smart is the ultimate goal, but if you had to pick just one I think we all know what you’d settle on.

12 years ago at 1:25 pmThat’s more of a personality than an accent.
12 years ago at 2:00 pmThis is so true. I’m originally from the south, but I go to school in Missouri. When I came up here, every guy asked me, “So where’s your accent?” because I don’t have a southern accent. When I told them I didn’t have one, they would say, “What a shame. You’d be hotter.” So, case in point.

12 years ago at 10:32 pmYou’re telling me the Chicago accent didn’t make the list?

12 years ago at 5:31 pmWho on earth considers New England accents attractive in a female?
12 years ago at 1:52 pmI would rather listen to a black accent…well…maybe not.
12 years ago at 6:24 pmThis list shows that southern accents for guys are useless. You’re dumb and girls like it pretty much the same amount as New York.
12 years ago at 1:56 pmYou’re an idiot.
