Study Proves Once Again That Fraternity And Sorority Members Are More Likely To Succeed

According to a recent study from Gallup and Purdue University’s survey of its recent graduates, “Fraternity and sorority members were more likely than those who were not involved in a Greek organization to thrive in their career and personal well-being after college…”

Most of us probably had a general idea about that already, if only from seeing the impressive, high functioning alcoholic alumni come around during Homecoming and football season, but it is always great to hear it again. The Gallup poll worked with Purdue University to survey 30,000 students. Of those 30,000 students, 16% were in Greek Life. 43% of those Greek Life students had full time jobs. Only 38% of their GDI counterparts could claim the same.

The Gallup Poll documented five aspects of life: purpose, physical, social, financial, and community. The results of the poll found those who participated in Greek Life were more likely to succeed in those five areas than a GDI. Why? When you are in Greek Life you have a social life, and having a social life usually means you want to keep up with your physical appearances. Looking good and having lots of friends generally means your self-esteem is high. Having good self-esteem gives you confidence. This confidence helps land jobs. Long story short, Greek Life molds you into someone who can become a productive member of society. Playing X-Box and crushing Mountain Dew Code Reds on a Friday night as your D&Bs remain as isolated as a forgotten tribe hidden deep within the Amazonian rainforest, not so much.

You’ve hit a new low in try hard status when you are using hash tags in the TFM comments. And they aren’t even ironic hash tags. They’re reek of desperation.
