Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Fell Asleep During The State Of The Union Because She Was Hammered

Eighty-one-year-old Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg made national headlines two weeks ago when it appeared that the honorable judge had fallen asleep during Barack Obama’s State of the Union address.

Turns out, according to Ginsburg herself, she wasn’t entirely sober for the event because some nice California wine had done her in. She addressed the issue this week at a speaking engagement at George Washington University.

From The Hill:

“The audience for the most part is awake, because they’re bobbing up and down, and we sit there, stone-faced, sober judges. But we’re not, at least I wasn’t, 100 percent sober,” […]

“Because before we went to the State of the Union, Justice Kennedy brought in … it was an Opus something or other, very fine California wine, and I vowed this year, just sparkling water, stay away from the wine, but in the end, the dinner was so delicious, it needed wine,” Ginsburg said.

Ginsburg was out of it because she was “wine girl wasted,” which makes this particular photo so much funnier:

Ginsburg explained that the other Supreme Court justices are well aware of her wine naps. Retired Justice David Souter was the one responsible for nudging her when she dozed off, but the new younger justices she sits between just don’t have the balls to prod awake the 81-year-old Supreme Court staple.

While retired Justice David Souter may have helped keep her awake during previous addresses, her current colleagues, such as Justices Anthony Kennedy and Stephen Breyer, are “sort of timid about it,” Ginsburg said Thursday, according to The Blaze.

She might lean a bit to the left, but RBG is 100 percent an American icon. .
