Syracuse Pike Chapter In Trouble After Member Beats Another Student Senseless
I always hate to see chapters get in trouble for hazing. Often times, it’s for something harmless that either got out of hand or was misunderstood by the authorities on campus. Sometimes, however, some people are just assholes.
The Pike chapter at Syracuse is under investigation and one member is facing charges after a student, who remains unnamed, was seriously beaten.
From Syracuse.com:
Tony Callisto, senior vice president and chief law enforcement officer at SU, said campus police investigated an incident that happened at the PIKE frat house April 9. A student was beaten at the house that evening, Callisto said. Callisto said the student was struck, repeatedly, by another student and required medical attention, he said.
Pike’s headquarters have put the chapter on suspension while everything is sorted out by the authorities. So yeah, you could say it’s pretty serious.
Interestingly, while the case was originally investigated as a hazing incident, law enforcement officials on campus now believe that what went down does not meet the legal definition for hazing under New York law, meaning the accused student will likely be charged with third-degree assault — something that always looks bad on your permanent record.
Hopefully, the victim, who we can’t be sure was a pledge, a brother, or just a random student over at the house one night, has made a full recovery by now. I feel like I shouldn’t have to say this, but please don’t beat the living shit out of people in the house. That’s assault, brutha..
