Y’all need to get a grasp of what is going on over there. It is not good that he is dead because now the Muslim Brotherhood is going to take over Libya just like they are doing in Egypt. For y’all idiots the MB is a supporter of Al-Queda and in certain regards more powerful. But y’all don’t know cause you’ve never been overseas and don’t truly understand what is going on over there.

You do have a point. The persecution of Christians is now rising in Libya, Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia. The Christians in Syria are scared for their lives now, because Assad’s government has protected them for years and is now at risk of being overthrown. Followers of Islam aren’t normal people, it’s almost as if they can only be governed by dictators that don’t follow human rights laws. The Muslim Brotherhood is a fucked up organization and it’s power is growing exponentially because of this “Arab Spring.” All these countries will now breed even more religious fanatics. When you give democracy to Muslims who support killing “infidels” you might as well support al-Qaeda. Watch what happens in these countries in the next few years.

This is all very true. Gaddafi became a US ally years before his murder and what follows will be an Islamist state. Celebrating this is like celebrating the Iranian Revolution. Anyone who does it is either an Islamist or a moron.

      scbro91,

where to begin. maybe we start with how, you, i assume born in 1991, disproved the Holy Word of God by pointing out a couple of laws in the Old Testament scriptures, mostly from the pentateuch books written when Israel was forming a society from scratch and required many bizarre laws applicable to that society (there were actually 613 original commandments, not ten). Thats right folks, all of the brilliant scholars and theologians whose entire lives are dedicated to understanding the history of the bible and go over it with a fine tooth comb, well shit they need to call scbro91 cause he totally cracked the bible. youre a fucking douche the likes of which no respectable fraternity should have to endure. thanks!

It doesn’t take a bible scholar to figure out that the bomber in Norway who killed 100 children was motivated purely by Christianity, or the large number of evil acts perpetrated in the bible in the name of God. And yes, that is in the old testament, but if I recall correctly, somewhere in Luke, Jesus says that all the laws of the old testament still apply. ALL OF THEM. So next time you work on a sunday, do the world a favor and kill yourself like any good christian should.

You are creating a straw man. Jesus said “It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid.” (Luke 16:17 NAB) This is in reference to the old testament laws. “All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness…” (2 Timothy 3:16 NAB)
“For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:18-19 RSV) Clearly the Old Testament is to be abided by until the end of human existence itself. None other than Jesus said so. It would also behoove you to read Exodus 22:19 where Christians are supposed to kill members of other religions. So I ask, is Christianity really a religion of peace?

Don’t quote the bible at me when you clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

Rooster Cogburn, I’m pretty sure that you just got your shit rocked. Don’t start quoting the Bible when you know nothing about theology or history. There’s a reason you go to Southwestern Bumfuck State Technical College. You’re trying really hard. Stop thinking that being fratty is how much you like Coldplay or something. You will never be fratty; I do not care how many pastel shorts you buy from J. Crew, which you think is nice. You will always be bottom-tier (by the way, “top-tier” at an irrelevant college is bottom-tier everywhere; you’re a joke) and there’s nothing you can do. It’s something that you’re born with and you just don’t belong.

    2. Broblesse Oblige

Just to clarify, Gaddafi was W’s ally, seeing as how they formed an alliance in 2004, as did Gaddafi and Tony Blair. They called him an “ally in the War on Terror.” Also, in 2009, Obama met with Gaddafi and reaffirmed their alliance, which was still in effect when Obama started backing Al Qaeda. I think that leaves Rooster Cogburn alone as not his ally. Also, nobody seems to remember this: Lockerbie was retaliation for murdering his four-year old daughter. Choosing the perpetrators of September 11th over the perpetrators of Lockerbie seems a little risky.

13 years ago at 5:52 pm
    3. rooster cogburn

well then you have to respect Obama’s master plan of subversion-making people BELIEVE he is actually battling Al-Qaeda via murdering their leaders one-by-one and making sure the last thing someone sees after they declare war on us is a seal team bullet or drone bombing. he must just be doing it so HE can move up the ranks in the organization. genius. and judging by Obama’s speech and W’s tweet today, i’d say they both ended that alliance quite a while ago. and since we already established me not being the colonel’s ally, that leaves only broblesse oblige as not only qaddafi’s ally, but also pay by the hour salad tossing partner.

I’m sorry, but are you seriously under the impression that the assassination of Osama bin Laden was the work of Barack Hussein Obama? That had kind of been in the process for a while and entirely outside of the realm of a single administration. Armies are quasi-independent. Go read a fucking book. By the way, I hadn’t realized that the Democratic National Convention had started already. Where’s Rooster’s “Yes we can” button? It’s campaign time again and he needs it.
Incidentally, no country has declared war on us during Barry’s administration. And Obama has issued orders directly barring our servicemen from firing back on Pakistani terrorists near the Afghan border. It’s called a newspaper. If you can’t understand the big words of academia (hint: you can’t,) then get one.

Jesus didn’t kill anyone, his distant followers did. Mohammad personally slaughtered thousands, and his followers continue to do so to this day. Just because one religion is bad does not mean they all are. I don’t see Christians blowing up mosques or hijacking airplanes.

I was just a boy when the infidels came to my village in their Blackhawk helicopters. The infidels fired at the oil fields and they lit up like the eyes of Allah. Burning oil rained down from the sky and cooked everything it touched. I could only hide myself and cry as my goats were consumed by the fiery black liquid death. In the midst of the chaos, I could swear that I heard my goats screaming for help. As quickly as they had come, the infidels were gone. It was on that day I put a jihad on them. And if you don’t believe it, then you’d better kill me now, because I’ll put a jihad on you, too.

Ku Klux Klan were some pretty awful Christians. Also the bomber in Norway was motivated purely by Christian belief and the bible. Terrorism is terrorism. Christians and Muslims are equally as capable of evil acts and do so.

13 years ago at 9:19 pm
    5. Frattery

Are they equally capable of evil acts? Yes. Do they commit evil acts in equal measure? No. For every rare incident like what happened in Norway (which was politically as well as religiously motivated), there are ten car bombings by Islamic extremists.

The amount of ignorance on this wall is ridiculous. Calling Qaddafi an Ally and stating that the Muslim Brotherhood has taken over Egypt and is the same as Al-Qaeda is false. I will allow myself to be lectured on economics by you business/economics majors, but if you’re going to enter international relations and politics please do a little research before you spout off ridiculous statements that only show your lack of knowledge on the subject matter. As a Marine and IR major the true state of the unrest in the middle east is far from certain, but the liberalization of the region is definitely an improvement. Our role in helping without diving in to the conflict head first too will also endear us to the leadership that emerges.

13 years ago at 3:57 pm
    1. Success

While I agree that a lot of the above is incorrect, so are you. Your status of a marine (irrelevant unless you’re somehow embedded in the local governments, though I respect your service) and studying IR notwithstanding, we have no clue what’s going to happen in the middle east. The gaps in leadership will be filled but at this point we do not know whether it will include liberalization or will in fact worsen. Though I agree with your last statement, it’s better not to call others ignorant when you don’t know the answer yourself.

Have you been keeping up with what’s happening in Egypt, mychapter? Islamists are burning down Coptic Christian churches and killing all they can. Don’t be so naive.

    3. MYchaptersbetter

Success – fair, I do not know everything thats going on, thats ignorance. Still, I don’t like the massive generalization going on above.
Keynes – The upgrades in women’s rights and freedom of the press are big improvements. One coptic church was burnt, true story. People always try to take advantage of unrest to push personal agendas, islamic/anarchic/atheist/etc. However, when Christians, Woman, Egyptian Liberals (not the same as the hippies here) and yes, Islamists ally together to overthrow a repressive regime, THAT is progress. If one group attempts to take control like Mubarak again, there are too many factions allied against that for it to succeed. You are taking one or two high profile evetns taking place in a country experiencing anarchy (that sorta happens after a revolution) and fear mongering about it.

13 years ago at 7:47 pm
    4. Keynes is a GDI

Dude, you live in a fantasy world. There is absolutely no basis for your argument that they are “liberalizing.” The women continue to have no rights. They continue to live by a law code similar to the one Hammurabi created. There is no such thing as civil or religious liberty over there. There will be another dictator in Libya, as there will be another dictator in Egypt.

13 years ago at 9:38 pm
    5. Frattery

Coptic Christians have been persecuted in Egypt since time immemorial. The past month’s incidents are not a result of some “anti-Christian” policies of the new regime; they’re just flare-ups enabled by the current chaotic climate in the country. The picture some conservative bloggers are painting of a coordinated movement by the Muslim Brotherhood to burn Christians at the stake is laughable, and I’m embarrassed to see so many echoing that narrative on this site.

has nothing to do with political afiliation. its just hilarious when people think that they know everything thats going thousands of miles away because they watched 3o minutes of fox news, and that the most powerful government in the world, whether it led by R’s or D’s is privy to so much more information than the public, so for a guy to assume he is some omniscient voice on the subject because he reads an article or watches a newstory is quite entertaining. now go back to tossing some colonel Q salad.
