Tennessee QB Tyler Bray: “I’m Paid to Win Football Games”

By my count, this makes the third time since the beginning of summer that young Tyler Bray has appeared in TFM news. First it was his reckless jet skiing and law enforcement run-in, then it was his chucking beer bottles at cars in broad daylight. This time it was only his words that landed him in the news.

“I’m paid to win football games.”

Goddamn, son. He was quick to backtrack, however, which I think is the most surprising part of this development. With some surprising wit application, Bray went on:

“I mean… my education. That’s what the SEC likes to call ‘getting paid.'”

Time out, Tyler. Just time out, man. Can we get someone inside the SEC athletic circles to confirm this is how they really refer to their scholarship money? By “getting paid?” I’m throwing down dollars to donuts that he just made that up.

If he would have said “I’m paid to win SEC football games” instead, this would be a non-issue, as that means he has received exactly $0 in improper benefits this season. The Tennessee Volunteers are o-6 in SEC play.
