Don't hate the player hate the game, unless that game is soccer. Then hate them both. TFM.

Soccer does have to be the worst sport in the world. Just because it’s popular around thrid world countries and pansy Europeans does not mean it’s great. It’s cheap to play so Africans and Mexicans in Latin America love to play it (don’t debate, everyone in Latin America is Mexican to me).

Let’s get one thing strait, Europe’s sports economy sucks. Think about it, Pro soccer is pretty much the ONLY sport in Europe (with tennis and formula one taking the other 3%). In the US all of our pro sports are big as well as college.

Just because many of us hate soccer but still support USA soccer does not mean we are contradicting ourselves, it just means that we are patriotic. I will support USA Field Hockey or Hand-Ball in the Olympics even though those sports are gayer than aids.

So if you’re playing soccer it’ll only be a few years until you come out of the closet.

No salary cap. Soccer is the ultimate game for fratters. You just buy the best players, and unlike in the MLB, they actually perform pretty consistently. Money=Winning, which not many sports can say.

Agreed. People can say what they want about soccer, but it is the most capitalist sport. No salary caps, no league approval on player sales/purchases, and no revenue sharing. None of that spread the wealth bullshit in that sport.

Soccer is the sport of Third World countries, moron. Probably one of the most GDI sports you could ask for. Although some of the players have some ridiculously hot slams…

They would probably play rugby if they were given the choice of European sports. Or basketball, which the Euros are pretty good at. Every good athlete over there does not only play soccer growing up. You think someone as quick and athletic as Nadal or Rubio wouldn’t be able to play soccer if thats the only thing they had focused on from their youth?

Because 6’9″ black guys make good midfielders? Honestly, Johnson, Kobe, and Nash are all decent players, but thats because CJ is a freak, Kobe grew up in Italy, and Nash grew up playing soccer. So I guess our team could be better if Kobe and CJ had focused on it, but other than that, I would say our best athletes for the sport do play it. I can’t see any MLB players in the sport, and Nash would play for Canada.

You don’t think 5’11”, 190 lb., 4.4 running cornerbacks would make good soccer players?

14 years ago at 3:20 pm
    3. The Piker

No, they would not. 4.4 has nothing to do with soccer ability. A football runs about a half mile over the game in short sprints. A soccer player runs about 9 miles, at 3/4 pace and with deep runs mixed in. It is not an easy transition, and takes an amount of endurance training that they would be unlikely to put in. Completely different type of fitness, and one that they would not excel in. For example, all the good 800 runners are white guys, at either 5’9″ or 6’3″. Shorter or taller struggle, in between need to find a good stride balance. The mid distance runner is the type that can switch to soccer, not the sprinter.

Piker, first off, this just proves how much pike fuckin sucks. Youre sitting here trying to defend one of the gayest sports ever invented. Youre trying to tell us that cornerback wouldnt be good at soccer because they dont have enough endurance. To quote Kenny Powers: “I play real sports. Im not trying to be the best a exercising.”

14 years ago at 2:53 am
    7. Lucas Fratterson

By the way Piker, it takes more endurance to run sprints than run 9 miles. And a cornerback runs MUCH more than half a mile in a game.

I ran XC, played basketball, and high jumped in high school. Ran a 16:35 5k, could dunk at 5’9″, and could high jump 6’4″. I have done plenty of endurance training and sprints. You are dead wrong. Holding a 6:00 mile pace for 9 miles is hard as hell. Full speed interval work and sprints is not. Especially with breaks every 20 seconds. Also, they get water every few minutes. They do wear pads, but still, nowhere near the same dedication. Now some players do put in plenty of work, like Lattimore, but his build is far from ideal for a soccer player.

yes, i am a moron? if everyone only played soccer growing up, then we would be better, however, not everyone, even in countries that are good at soccer, plays that sport. they have choices as well, just different ones. you are the moron, if you don’t understand that.

Most of you will probably claim that soccer is NF because it’s for Europeans (which is mostly true), but you can’t possibly tell me that last summer you didn’t feel even a slight sense of patriotism and pride when USA was in the World Cup. Watch the video above if you haven’t seen the reaction to Donovan’s goal.
America has a national team that gets lots of support every time they play and brings out a great deal of patriotism as well. Last time I checked, Patriotism is FaF.

I’m sorry, but how is the most popular sport in the world NF? Sounds like you’re a little jealous. It’s one of the most difficult sports to master, not just anyone can play…

14 years ago at 3:51 pm
    1. Moose_

It’s the most popular sport because it’s cheap to play. If you were in a third world country, you’d be excited to kick a ball around rather than play in the dirt.

14 years ago at 5:06 pm
    2. IHSFrat1855

It’s the most popular sport in the world because it requires no equipment to play. Any poor kid with a dirt field and a ball can play soccer. Also, just because something is popular does not make it frat. Basically you’re whole argument is stupid and judging by your name I’m assuming you’re a women or a gay man and I think whatever you left in the kitchen to write this might be burning.

14 years ago at 5:08 pm
    3. Bid

You know how many dirt poor kids play football, right? And Baseball? Besides, that argument isn’t even economically correct. Sure, you can find a ball anywhere, but then you might as well play any other ball sport with it. It’s not popular because it’s cheap, the sport is ‘cheap’ because it’s popular. The kids aren’t going around saying, “what’s the cheapest thing I can find to do.” They’re saying, “I want to play soccer,” and they’re playing it with the cheapest equipment possible. They could pick up the same excuse for a ball and play rugby, or football, or find a stick and play baseball. Or, find a different stick and a smaller ball and play an equally crude form of golf. Or, they could build a boat out of garbage wood and tie sheets to another stick and go sailing. This “only expensive sports are fratty” thing is annoying. Every sport is expensive if you’re getting the top notch equipment. Shit, look at NASCAR and tell me that shouldn’t be the frattiest of them all.

Let me just say this… I may make a damn good sandwich and bake like no ones business but I’m also a collegiate soccer player with 8 state championships under my belt with my nationally ranked team so you can say I belong in the kitchen, but I also belong on a soccer field. Which, despite your clear lack of knowledge, is not the cheapest sport. But I mean, I’ve only been playing for 16 years… Obviously, I don’t know anything about it.
