Texas A&M Has Become The New Laughingstock Of College Football
It was a sunny day in November of 2012 when an upstart Texas A&M team traveled to Tuscaloosa to take on the number one team in the land, the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Aggies weren’t supposed to be ranked. They were the new guys in the SEC. This was supposed to be a down year according to the pundits. Enter the poster-child for A&M football, Johnny Manziel. JFF dazzled, spun, ran, and juked into the hearts of Americans as he took down the hated Crimson Tide. A&M football had arrived.
The Aggies ran the state of Texas that year, so much so that they claimed the hashtag #WRTS on Twitter, which stood for “We Run This State.” They had all the swagger in the world. They actually looked like they might be here to stay with Sumlin and Kliff’s high-powered offense. Then Kliff left, Manziel couldn’t do it all, and the Aggies finished middle of the pack in the SEC the following year.
No worries, though, as Kenny Hill was waiting in the wings with 5-star Kyle Allen waiting in his wings and another 5-star Kyler Murray already committed. The Aggies were stocked at the offensive skill positions for years to come. And then came the implosion of the program…
Their in-state rival, the Texas Longhorns, seized momentum late in Charlie Strong’s first full year as a recruiter, finishing with a better recruiting class than the Aggies despite a terrible 6-7 record. Kenny Hill transferred, Kyle Allen faltered, and Kyler Murray was no better. But the coaching staff apparently had no idea how to handle these players and guaranteed both QBs substantial playing time. After discovering that promise wasn’t good at all, both of them up and left, leaving the Aggies with Jake Hubenak and OU transfer Trevor Knight. Yikes. They even spent money to make a documentary about a top recruit this past year who ended up signing with Texas.
Last night, things went from bad to worse for the folks down in College Station. The Aggies’ top commit and biggest recruiter, Tate Martell, decided that he would re-open his recruitment.
After talking with my family about
what is best for my future, I have
decided to reopen my recruiting
process.— Tate Martell (@TheTateMartell) May 5, 2016
In this day and age, that is normal. Unless a kid is a diehard fan of a team, chances are likely that an early commit will flip on his initial decision. Well, this apparently didn’t please A&M’s current WR coach, Aaron Moorehead. He went on a Twitter rant to express his displeasure. The first tweet has since been deleted, but Dallas Morning News was able to get the wording.
Scared for this next group of kids. There is no accountability and no sense of positivity when it comes to adversity. #selfish #allaboutme

I feel sorry for ppl who never understand loyalty. I can't really even vibe with u. At the end of the day trust is 💯 & everything else is BS

I wasn't even talking about who everyone thinks I'm talking about. I didn't even know #badtiming #relevanttho #stillnoloyalty

Yeah, you definitely weren’t talking about Tate despite the fact that those tweets happened after Martell announced his decision and no one else decommitted last night. Keep telling yourself that, Aaron. Regardless of whether or not that’s the case, your rant cost A&M some more recruits.

Moorehead didn’t learn from his mistake and doubled-down on his stance.
People act like the truth is all the sudden a bad thing. Society is too sensitive. Y'all boys soft. #texastough

Even a current Stanford commit chimed in.
A&M as we know it is dead. It’s no coincidence that their downfall shadowed that of their hero Manziel. As his career crashed and burned, so did A&M’s reputation. It’s pretty bad when your coach is begging for an NFL job that he is wholly unqualified for to get away from the dumpster fire he’s created while running this program.
I leave you with a beautiful montage of the A&M football we used to know…
RIP A&M Football 2012-2012..

Not like they were ever going to be a serious threat in the college football landscape, just another sad one hit wonder
9 years ago at 12:17 pmAs much as TFM likes to jump on the attack of things like censorship of speech because of pussies getting butthurt (mizzou incident, etc.), it would seem as though they’d back up coach Moorhead a little bit. He called out a couple dudes for dropping their commitment. Then a bunch of pussies get butthurt because of it and drop? I’d rather do without them
9 years ago at 12:20 pmIt’s years like these you miss looking forward to a good game on Thanksgiving as opposed to just getting anally fisted every other Saturday
9 years ago at 12:29 pmI vote that the NCAA give JFF an exemption and let him return to college football.
9 years ago at 12:43 pmDoes Passages Malibu have a team?
9 years ago at 12:56 pmI knew who wrote this before even clicking the link. Get a new agenda Harrison.
9 years ago at 1:07 pmWell there goes watching my team play a good game, now they gonna suck ass like the long horns
9 years ago at 1:33 pmUT still sucks. Gig em
9 years ago at 3:37 pmPuzzled by the “new” laughingstock comment. Laughingstock would have been sufficient.
Moorehead was originally talking about the aggie WR recruit, Netherly, in his tweets. Not Martell. Talk about bad timing.
