Texas Student-Writer Posts Column Encouraging Nation’s Top Uncommitted Basketball Recruit To NOT Attend UT, Students Are Pissed
Myles Turner is a freak of nature. At 6’ 11” and 225lbs he has the stature that most men can only dream of having. He’s also pretty damn good at basketball. He is the nation’s fourth best prospect and the highest ranked player of the 2014 class who has yet to commit to play somewhere. Unsurprisingly, he holds scholarship offers from every basketball powerhouse in the country, one of those being the University of Texas. Sadly for Longhorn fans, he is expected to choose the University of Kansas when he finally commits, but nothing is set in stone.
Several days ago, the UT student newspaper, The Daily Texan, published a column written by student writer Evan Berkowitz detailing why Myles Turner should NOT attend the university. Berkowitz lists the atmosphere, the coaching, and the spotlight as the three main reasons Turner should spurn the Longhorns and take his talents elsewhere. Berkowitz’s desire to shoot down the chances of his own school landing a top ten recruit sparked a major outcry in Austin and led to some hilarious backlash against the writer.
The comments below the column were filled with hilariously insulting shots at Berkowitz.
Tweets to Berkowitz were not much kinder.
@Evan_Berkowitz You should leave our school since you apparently hate it so much and want the worst for our basketball team. #disgrace

@Evan_Berkowitz If Turner doesn't choose Texas I'll be on the first flight out to Austin ready to give you the worst spanking of your life

.@Evan_Berkowitz Stick to writing about baseball, considering your basketball article didn't make a lick of goddamn sense.

@PatkUSA @Evan_Berkowitz well he writes for the Daily Texan…. So yeah he's dumb lmao

Berkowitz has so far ignored the rabid hatred surrounding him in Austin. While it is doubtful that Berkowitz’s edgy opinions will have any effect on the recruitment of Turner, should he not choose the Longhorns, partial blame will no doubt be placed on the idiot who had to rile up an entire fan base.

“Unsurprisingly, he holds scholarship offers from every basketball powerhouse in the country, one of those being the University of Texas.” yeah keep telling yourself that texas is a national powerhouse in basketball
11 years ago at 2:57 pmAnd while we’re at it, whatever happened to Texas Longhorns football?
11 years ago at 3:06 pmAs soon as they ran out of recruits named Colt, they just gave up.
11 years ago at 9:31 amMy thought the entire time reading this. When I think UT, I think football, not basketball.
11 years ago at 12:57 pmTexas has been to 15 of the last 16 NCAA tourneys (as well as 23 of the last 26). In the last 12 years, we’re the only school with multiple Naismith winners. The soon-to-be NBA MVP went there, as did the guy who’s averaging 45 and 13 in the playoffs right now. We finished 3rd in the toughest conference in America last year, and we’ve got every single player on our roster coming back. So yeah, we will continue to refer to our program as a national powerhouse, because it is. And if you don’t like it, you can go fuck yourself, along with Evan Berkowitz.
11 years ago at 5:37 pmIf you consider 0 national titles and only 3 final four’s a powerhouse basketball program then you have a pretty low standard of what constitutes a powerhouse.
11 years ago at 6:17 pmYour national powerhouse team couldn’t get past the second round of the tournament with the soon-to-be NBA MVP playing; I really feel like that’s not something to be bragging about.
11 years ago at 9:17 amlast time i saw a Naismith trophy wasnt a national championship trophy
11 years ago at 1:18 pmIf you think the big 12 is any what better than the ACC or especially the Big 10 you’re a fucking idiot.

11 years ago at 10:52 pm“Basketball fans dream about walking through the tunnels at Allen Fieldhouse or hitting a buzzer-beater against North Carolina at Cameron Indoor Stadium.” Yeah nice try UNC doesn’t play at Cameron idiot
11 years ago at 3:11 pmSo.. Uh… You can’t think of any other scenario where that statement makes perfect sense?
11 years ago at 3:39 pmIf you weren’t trolling when you posted that, your dad probably should’ve pulled out. Moron.
