Texas Students To Carry Dildos Around Campus In Bizarre Protest Against New Gun Law
Texas upset a heavily favored Oklahoma team this weekend. Austin City Limits is going full swing. From an outsider’s perspective, Austin should be a center of jubilation and intoxication, but all is not well in the world of activism.
If you’re a student at the University of Texas, you’re about to receive undeniable confirmation that Austin is, indeed, still weird. Come August 24, 2016, the flagship campus will be covered in students exercising their new right to carry on campus, and an assload of dildos. So many dildos. At least 1,200 dildos if the Facebook event created by a violin performance major can be considered an accurate representation of those attending.
#CocksNotGlocks. That’s the motto these people live by. “These people” being the ones who find it absurd that students will have the legal right to carry a concealed weapon on campus, and the best way to combat gun laws is obviously with dildos. Any rational young activist could have come to that conclusion. If you aren’t able to connect the two, it may be time to check your privilege.
From Facebook:
ANYBODY can participate in solidarity: alum, non-UT students, people outside of Texas. Come one dildo, come all dildos.
“You’re carrying a gun to class? Yeah well I’m carrying a HUGE DILDO.”
Just about as effective at protecting us from sociopathic shooters, but much safer for recreational play.
Their stated reasoning for selecting a sex toy as their symbol of solidarity comes from the the campus prohibition against obscenity and obscene images. Guns kills people. Dicks don’t kill people. Therefore, they fight guns with dicks. As campus activists, logical thought is considered more reprehensible than the gun laws they’re protesting, and as well are all well aware of, the only way to win over reasonable people is with irrational thought.
There is a semblance of reason beginning to counter the group, however, which gives me hope that the citizens of Austin haven’t completely lost their rationality.
And then there’s this guy, who just wants to watch the world burn..

10 years ago at 1:53 pmNo shit. I seriously wonder what parents think when they see/hear their crazy liberal offspring doing dumb liberal shit like this at college. “Aww I’m so proud of our dear son Sam for burning that American flag. How patriotic; we raised him right.”
10 years ago at 8:26 amThe only good thing about dildos are that they shoot blanks, not what i look for in a PDW..
10 years ago at 1:54 pmLiberals these days… smh.
10 years ago at 1:58 pmLiberals always*

10 years ago at 2:01 pmWell they will have the dildoes to do so now.

10 years ago at 2:25 pmI think instant background checks and licensing should help to curb mass shootings. Giving everyone on campus a gun won’t solve the issue.
10 years ago at 2:35 pmThere’s a world of difference between permitting a CHL holder to carry on campus and simply giving everybody a gun. Before opening your fucking mouth, actually do some research on firearms law in the United States.
10 years ago at 2:46 pmYou’re a huge pussy
10 years ago at 2:05 pmYou cannot buy a gun without passing a background check.
10 years ago at 2:48 pmYou cannot get a concealed carry permit with undergoing additionally scrutiny.
Inform yourself.
And plus, the mass shootings that you hear about are almost always done by people who passed background checks.
10 years ago at 5:48 pmNo they’re the ones that steal their parents gun…
10 years ago at 5:55 pmWhy don’t the liberals think of a better way to protect themselves. I vote for having all students carry baseball bats on campus. I can guarantee that would stop any nazi or school shooter
10 years ago at 2:41 pmYour vote doesn’t count.
10 years ago at 2:53 pmTEDDY’S BACK BITCHES!!! It takes a lot to bring me out of my slumber, but I felt this was an issue that warranted my mustachioed opinion. The general gist of this article and the issue it ultimately points to is the place of weapons/concealed weapons on college campuses, in large part to allow students to protect themselves from the large number of school shootings that have plagued our nations for the last several years.
10 years ago at 3:03 pmNow, this is both a good idea and a bad one. Let’s get the good reasons out of the way first. It all boils down to a few simple facts: Gun free zones do not do jack shit, and no matter the police response, lone gunman cannnot be stopped for the first few minutes from killing as many people as they please since the police can only move so fast. So logically, allowing the students or teachers to arm themselves to be able to fight back is the only real option, and honestly I see no real alternative besides stationing a SWAT team at every corner of every building, which for obvious reasons is impossible. However, this arming of students/teachers with concealed or even open carry weapons is bad for the next few reasons.
A little preamble for my reasonings on this being a bad option: Ol’ Teddy goes to Mississippi State, and a little over a month ago we had a shooting scare that wound up being a major overestimation: the student in question had no weapon on him and was mentally ill, but an alert was sent out and campus was put on lockdown, which I believe was pretty reasonable. What followed for the next several hours after the alert fuels my negative views on arming students. And it all boils down to this simple fact: people are dumb panicky animals when faced with a threat.
I was in class in a building pretty far away from where the “shooter” was said to be. So while I was definitely nervous, maybe even scared, there wasn’t really much threat to me even if there had been a real gunman. So I spent the time on lockdown on our fraternity GroupMe, trying to account for everyone and making sure the guys who were actually in the buildings near the “shooter” were ok. As time drug on, there were numerous rumors and “reports” of multiple shooters, five at one point, and several dead, with one dumbass in our fraternity saying that it had to be ISIS, and that it was a coordinated attack because the “shooter” walked to the building next to the original one. So much planning required to walk next door. Anyway, the police responded very well and the “shooter” was arrested, and about an hour after the alert was issued, it was lifted and students were allowed to go home until classes resumed at 2pm. However, as I walked outside, there was a second scare as some person screamed “Gun!” on the drill field where hundreds of students were, and while the reason for the scream is unknown, the students literally stampeded off the field. I was just exiting my building and got a full view of this incident, and realized that people panicking at perceived threats is just as dangerous as there being a real one. But soon we all made it home.
Those threeish hours I spent at the fraternity house made it clear why concealed carry could be a bad idea. With the house being full of good ol’ southern boys, they would not stop talking for the next three hours about how if they had their pistols, they could have ended the threat right then and there, as at the time we did not know this was a false alert and we genuinely thought shots may have been fired.
But here is the thing: no one in this whole situation had any idea what the fuck was happening. So if one of our guys, let’s call him Austin, had seen a real gunman firing into students, and pulled his gun and fired back, that could have caused a multitude of dangerous and deadly problems, numbered below:
1. People were freaking the fuck out and running around, so if this guy had been shooting, and Austin shot back, first of all even if Austin was a good shot, he probably would have to deal with the body’s stress response to being terrified and likely would have missed and possibly hit a few of the dozens of students running around in panic, not to mention maybe being shot himself by the gunman, but since said gunman was already trying to kill people that’s really a moot point.
2. THIS IS LIKELY THE BIGGEST PROBLEM THAT COULD ARISE FROM CONCEALED CARRY ON A CAMPUS DURING A SHOOTING INCIDENT: Since as mentioned previously no one has any fucking clue what is happening, if Austin shot back, and another three students in the area also have weapons, they may not know that Austin isn’t the gunman. The buildings that were affected on campus had very tight corridors and numerous corners, so if some hero ran towards the gunshots, turned the corner, and sees Austin kill the shooter, how is the hero gonna know Austin is not the actual shooter? He just watched Austin gun someone down, and in the panic and stress of the moment, again accentuated by the fact that no one has any fucking clue what is happening or who the shooter is, the hero may shoot Austin. Then other students see the hero firing at Austin, who killed the shooter, leading them to think there are multiple shooters, with more students with concealed weapons maybe now firing on the hero, which means that since no one knows what the fuck is happening and who is the actual shooter but sees students gunning each other down, that adds to the confusion and panic and possibly more people dying. Not to mention giving the police a harder time for figuring out who is who, which leads to my next point.
3. This is similar to reason 2, but the police have no fucking clue who the shooter is either. They only possibly know where he is, and as confused as the whole campus was during our incident, they really could only boil that down to maybe three buildings, which take time to secure, which gives the gunman and any students fighting back more time to shoot at each other. So if a SWAT team storms the building, and they see Austin standing over the shooter’s body with a gun, or trading fire with the gunman, or trading fire with other confused and armed students for the reasons mentioned above, what do you think the SWAT team is going to do? They are going to return fire, probably much more effectively than anyone involved in the shooting. But since multiple students have concealed weapons and are shooting at each other, how are the cops supposed to know who the good guys are? They can’t. And thus they may kill more “innocent” people because they think there are multiple shooters.
So in summary, I don’t have an answer to protecting students from gunmen. Gun free zones aren’t going to stop a criminal or a psychopath, and the only real thing that works is locking the doors, barring them, and waiting for the cops. But that doesn’t help for the first few minutes, and God forbid the gunman is in a classroom. If multiple students are armed and fight back, that will only add to the confusion, as seen in students in my University panicking and stampeding on the drill field because someone thought they saw a gun and screamed, terrifying the fuck outta everyone. While allowing the students to arm themselves is the only real option I can see to try and let them protect themselves, it likely can cause just as many problems if not more to first responders and the campus as a whole for the above reason. Please feel free to prove me wrong, I really hope you do, but I cannot see letting every student arming themselves as helping. Maybe it will dissuade potential shooters, but that may do nothing to stop the mentally ill or glory hound sociopaths who want to kill as many people to get three days of coverage on CNN and FOX, as has been seen depressingly numerous times (seriously, our fucking media, both liberal and conservative, are pretty much only ensuring that shooters get time in the spotlight. The sheriff from that Washington shooting last week who refused to give the identity of the shooter to avoid turning him into a media sensation had the right idea, which the media fucked right on over by releasing his name moments later.)
So forgive me for the long rant, and while I belive fully in the 2nd Amendment, I don’t see all students being able to arm themselves as really able to help the situation based on my experience. Again, no one got hurt at my school, so it could be very well different for others, but I only see students shooting at each other in a gunman attack as getting more people hurt and adding to the panic.
Thank you for your time.
Teddy’s out, bitches!
TL;DR: Teddy agrees.
10 years ago at 3:05 pmGeezus teddy it’s a Sunday. Relax.
10 years ago at 3:24 pmThere’s a simple solution: all of the Good Guys should wear white hats, and the Real Shooters should be required to wear black hats.
10 years ago at 3:31 pmWhere’s TFMCiffsnotes when you need him?
10 years ago at 3:32 pmI agree, but one detail needs to be removed. Don’t blame mental illness for mass shootings. And everyone should educate themselves on that point.
10 years ago at 3:53 pmIf you shoot a bunch of people to make a statement or for fun, you are mentally ill. End of story.
10 years ago at 4:38 pmMental illnesses have specific definitions, causes, etc. just like any other illness. Calling a mass shooter crazy then believing he has a mental illness is no different than saying “this makes me sick” then believing you have a legitimate disease. Do you also still believe anyone with a persistent itch must have leprosy and should be exiled?
10 years ago at 9:12 pmYou are that persistent itch.

10 years ago at 8:35 pmThat is one expensive coat hanger.
10 years ago at 8:43 pm“… the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” If we believe the Constitution to be the supreme law of the land, then the campus carry issue couldn’t be more clear. The people have a right to protect themselves with their own weapons until the Constitution is otherwise amended. For conservatives and libertarians in this country, the issue really ought to be that simple.
10 years ago at 6:09 pmWow, didn’t expect laps from a post simply pointing out the law. I guess either we have a lot of progressives who hate the 2nd Amendment lurking on the site or the state of conservatism in the US has really taken a nosedive.
10 years ago at 1:15 amYou forgot the “Congress shall puts no laws” part threat prefaces the bill of rights. Hell it wasn’t long ago that the federal courts interpreted that to mean even your state government could limit fun ownership anyway they wanted.
10 years ago at 5:49 am*pass damn it. Give us an edit button!
10 years ago at 6:23 amWell pretty much the state- federalism dynamic was ruined by liberals in the 20th century who sought to destroy states rights and individual freedom. The bill of rights has essentially been turned upside down but thankfully the 2nd amendment is very clear and leaves no room for redefinition by those perverters of Republicanism.
10 years ago at 7:06 amGenerally I’d agree about the federal judiciary and activist judges over stepping their bounds since the new deal. However, the 2nd amendment wasn’t officially incorporated to started until something ridiculous like 2010. So for decades the states have been forced to respect most of the amendments in the bill of rights, but not the second amendment.
10 years ago at 8:40 amThat’s true – I just didn’t want to write out the entire Amendment and, for brevity’s sake, wrote down the most relevant part. Point is, the Constitution guarantees our natural right to bear arms and protect ourselves. And yes, earlier in American history, there was a school of thought that said the Constitution only applies to the Feds – the States could essentially do what they wanted in terms of civil liberties. That has changed and whether that’s a good idea or not is still up for debate among conservative scholars.
10 years ago at 12:26 pmI kinda skimmed the comment, but what if there was some sort of training/class a student would have to take before getting a special campus concealed carry permit? Might not solve all the issues but could mitigate them.
10 years ago at 7:01 amI take great umbrage at this. I am a good guy and I always wear a black hat, either my Resistol or my custom made Tom Hirt. Blazing Saddles this is not. Now, if I were black, perhaps a white hat, but since I’m white (not a racist comment, since I had no part in being white), I find that black suits me more. Bottom line: Fashion has no place in defense against bad guys. BTW, Glocks are black.
10 years ago at 1:38 amFirst, Ted, I appreciate that you are being serious, so I will try to be serious as well, although it’s not my nature. There are a certain number of crazies in the world who will do crazy shit no matter what laws we pass and what measures we take to prevent their craziness. Now, a lot of folks get shot and killed in this country, no doubt about it. And the media skews the stories to blame the guns, not the shooter. They are fond of contrasting our homicides from gun shots with countries where guns are forbidden or closely restricted. However, killings do not require guns. They can be done with one’s bare hands, with knives, explosives, poison gas, and so forth. Mass killings have taken place throughout history, guns or no guns. And no matter how much training the cops have, they are seldom where they are needed when they are needed. So it makes sense to me to allow people who are reasonable and responsible to arm themselves in case somebody starts shooting up the place. But carrying a firearm brings with it huge responsibility–the responsibility to understand your firearm and how to shoot it, and when to shoot it. That’s the place where it becomes difficult. Even cops have a tough time deciding when to shoot and when not to shoot. There is a training program for cops called “Shoot–Don’t Shoot” designed to help them make split second decisions to shoot or not to. Most civilians who carry have not been through this, but it is available for civilians who seek it out. I fully concur that a lot of folks who carry are not really qualified through training to be in possession of a weapon. But the 2nd Amendment being what it is, we are not going to be able to stop them. My message is this: If you are going to carry, and I carry everywhere I go except where it is not legal to do so, you have the responsibility to learn how to deal with the situations you might encounter that would require you to use your weapon. This means taking classes. Some states require a class for a CCW permit; others don’t. I have taken several classes and regularly shoot with a NRA instructor (who happens to be my brother-in-law). We talk about situations and how we would respond to them and then do simulated range exercises. While I am pretty much a purist on gun rights, I do think we should find a way to make folks who carry more skilled with their weapons and require them to attend a minimum of a 16 hour course unless they can demonstrate, through military service or law enforcement experience, that they don’t need it. BTW, I shoot with cops and beat them all the time. They are notoriously bad shots because they probably practice 1/10 of the time that I do. The more “skull practice” one does about active shooter situations the better one will respond if he finds himself involved. Good athletes do a lot of mental preparation off the field. Setting up scenarios in your mind and working through them helps a lot. I know some good bull riders and they all tell me they close their eyes and do simulated rides in their minds before they ride.
10 years ago at 2:05 amSo the mental preparation is critical to being able to respond to a shooter situation. Most people who shoot in a pressure situation shoot much too rapidly and without much thought. It is hard to focus your mind on a situation that is unexpected. But when somebody is shooting at the group you are in, a shot fired back will distract him momentarily. That is when you carefully place your shots at the torso and head. When the cops arrive, put your weapon down immediately and act in a non-threatening manner. If you are not sure who to shoot, then don’t shoot until you are sure. If there is no weapon visible and being fired, then there is no reason to shoot. Period. But I do feel that having a number of armed civilians with responsible knowledge and training is better than the alternative.
