Texas Tech Football Player Punches Girl, Promptly Dismissed From Team

Pickup basketball games can get heated. I cannot confirm nor deny whether I have come to blows with that guy who thinks playing good defense equates to fouling you every time you touch the ball, or the guy who dribbles all around, shoots some bogus fadeaway, and shrugs off his air ball like he’s never done it before. We’ve all played with that one chick who can kind of ball but loves to throw her elbows around, too. Usually, you get her back by blocking the shit out of her on a fast break–not by punching her in the face.

However, incoming Texas Tech freshman cornerback Nigel Bethel II took it too far when he did just that and punched Tech’s leading scorer on the women’s team, Amber Battle, in the face. One day later, Bethel II was dismissed from the team for the punch, which resulted in a broken bone that will require Battle to undergo surgery.

Incoming Red Raiders cornerback Nigel Bethel II was dismissed from the Texas Tech football team less than 24 hours after hitting a female athlete, university officials announced Sunday. The Texas Tech football signee hit Lady Raider star Amber Battle on Saturday at the student recreation center. She is expected to have surgery.

What an idiot. He’s a moron for striking a girl in the first place. Secondly, he’s one of the biggest recruits Texas Tech had coming in this season, so everything he does will be under high scrutiny now. Why stop there? He went on to tweet, “Trouble always seems to find me…” but then he quickly deleted it. Bethel II took the term “wreck ‘em, Tech” a little too literally. I hope he enjoys playing in the FCS.
