That’s a Clown Shirt, Bro
19 year-old rookie Bryce Harper unleashed the slogan for his All-Star game campaign with a sleeveless tee shirt showing Harper’s new slogan of sorts. Its origin goes back to last month when a Canadian reporter asked Harper if he’d be taking advantage of the less stringent Canadian drinking law, allowing him to throw a cold one back or 12.
It was clear young Bryce’s mind and mouth weren’t connecting at the time. In order to give no indication of the night-to-be and uphold a politically correct image, he responded, “That’s a clown question, bro.” The phrase went viral.
The kid is now capitalizing on the phrase, and this time he’s using it to push for the final spot on the National League All-Star roster. He plays a great outfield and he’s swinging a nice stick, especially for a teenager in a grown man’s league (.280 BA, 8 HR, 23 RBI). His new shirt design with the phrase, “Don’t be a clown, bro” might be enough to secure him a few popularity votes and land him on the roster. Going no-sleeve was a nice touch and I’m sure a detail requested by Harper himself. Gotta let the pythons out.
