The Dallas Mavericks Front Office Is Allegedly Full Of Total Scumbags, And Mark Cuban Claims He Had No Idea
Execs just casually asking girls if they want to get gangbanged, staff watching porn in the office, and a guy telling multiple female employees that he’ll leave his wife for them: these are just a few of the things that were (and allegedly still are) going on at the Mavs headquarters according to a recent report.
Full disclosure: when I first read the SI report, I was on edge. Would I have to stop watching Shark Tank? Was Mark Cuban going to be the next public figure to fall? Did he know about all of this stuff? Why didn’t he put a stop to it? The questions rushed through my brain faster than you can say grab her by the pussy.
It seems that the Mavericks had a corporate culture that filtered down from the top, not ownernship top, but pretty close. A massive chunk of the complaints were directed towards former Mavs CEO Terdema Ussery who allegedly often said romantic shit like this to employees:
From Sports Illustrated:
At this meal, with ESPN crew members seated nearby, Ussery struck up an unusual conversation. As the woman recalls the exchange, Ussery claimed that he knew what she was going to do over the coming weekend. When the woman asked, confusedly, what Ussery meant, he smiled.
“You’re going to get gang-banged,” he asserted, “aren’t you?”
“No,” the woman responded, caught off-guard. “Actually, I’m going to the movies with friends.”
“No,” Ussery insisted. “You’re definitely getting gang-banged.”
How eloquently put. It’s a shock anyone would ever turn down an offer like that. That is the type of talk that you expect out of some troll from the TFM comments section, not the fucking CEO of an NBA team. What’s even more sad is that this was just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the messed up shit that was allowed to go on.
Interviews with more than a dozen former and current Mavericks employees in different departments, conducted during a months-long SPORTS ILLUSTRATED investigation, paint a picture of a corporate culture rife with misogyny and predatory sexual behavior: alleged public fondling by the team president; outright domestic assault by a high-profile member of the Mavs.com staff; unsupportive or even intimidating responses from superiors who heard complaints of inappropriate behavior from their employees; even an employee who openly watched pornography at his desk.
There’s a lot to take in here. The levels of scumbaggery range from your basic creep talk to a staffer who KO’ed his girlfriend and was still allowed to work there. All things that obviously should definitely not have been tolerated.
And what does Mark Cuban have to say about it?
Reached by SI on Monday, Cuban expressed embarrassment and horror at the accusations—but insisted he had no knowledge of the corrosive culture in his offices. “This is all new to me,” he said. “The only awareness I have is because I heard you guys were looking into some things…. Based off of what I’ve read here, we just fired our HR person. I don’t have any tolerance for what I’ve read.”
Bold move claiming to be the most involved owner in the NBA then simultaneously swearing you had no knowledge when shit hits the fan. On the other hand, the Cubes is a very busy man. There’s a chance he could have missed something, right?
This feels similar to other cases we have had in recent years, and while this situation differs in magnitude, it’s still hard to answer the question. How can someone in a position of power in an organization go almost 20 years without knowing about the issues occurring in said organization? I want to believe you, Cubeman — but I’m not sure that I can..
