The Highest Paid Interns Make More Than Your Dad

You’ve probably spent a decent amount of time looking into what the entry-level salaries are for your field. Depending on your major, this can really vary from barely minimum wage all the way up to $80,000 if you’re awesome. However, a Cornell undergrad did a little research on what the biggest tech companies pay their interns, and the results make the word “stipend” look pretty fucking stupid.

Dropbox tops off the list with a salary of $13,500. I mean, that’s not a lot of money, but I suppose you could survive on that with a little help from your parents. I’m sorry, what’s that? That amount is MONTHLY? What world are we living in? Yes, that’s right, there are interns at Dropbox making well over what most managers at my last corporate job are making. Interns.

Dropbox isn’t alone, either. LinkedIn ($12,600), Amazon, and Foursquare (both $11,000) all are in the five-figure monthly range. Goldman Sachs makes the list at a paltry $5,000 per month, which is something I never thought I would say about an internship. Granted, these positions are going to a very select group of people who haven’t had any social life to speak of for the last 22 years or so, but still. How does it feel to know that there are kids your age making more money than your pops?

Here is the full list that was compiled:

I’ll say this much. If I run into any money troubles, I’m going to hit up my tech intern friends for cash in the future.

I’ll offer $5k/month for an intern with substantial web development experience. The Intern only gets paid in defective Rowdy Gentleman gear.

My friend was an intern for Amazon, he is now their recruitment officer and they are throwing money at him like a tattooed stripper in a Navy ship. But he is so fucking socially awkward that he wouldn’t know what to do with that type of cash. Go to the party I said… There will be sluts I said… But he never got it.

Most of these tech companies are in California where the cost of living is absurdly high- this is one of the reason why the pay is so high.
