“The Snappening” Is Approaching – 200,000 Snapchat Nudes To Be Leaked
No one is safe.
Snapchat’s main selling point–really the only reason for its crazy popularity–is its self-destructing feature. That’s THE reason people are using it. It’s a nude distributor’s wet dream. Set the timer for five seconds and send out a fire nude, then poof, no more nude. No more threat of your goods hitting the internet. It’s a brilliant idea as long as it’s working properly. But if the images are not self-destructing, and if hackers are able to dig them out of the internet graveyard, it’s just like any other run-of-the-mill messaging app.
Y’all were living in nude paradise. Vacation’s over for about 200,000 of you, though.
An anonymous user on a 4chan message board claims to have hacked into the Snapchat image-saving service Snapsave, and warns that he will release 200,000 images that are explicit in nature. To validate his threats, he posted the above screenshot of blurred images that he claims have been hacked. “The Snappening” is upon us.
From International Business Times:
Hackers have warned that thousands of nude images sent via the mobile-messaging service Snapchat, many of which users believed self-destructed after being sent, are to be released online in a searchable database.
Messaging boards on the notorious website 4chan have been filling up with news of the imminent leak, already being referred to as “The Snappening”.
Many of you clicked this story because you’ve sent nudes over Snapchat. Sorry about it. Hopefully you used the neck down approach to keep plausible deniability in your back pocket. For the rest of you, you should have used Cyber Dust (and added +TotalFratMove). The Mark Cuban-backed messaging app is a tried-and-true disappearing chat messenger.
Shitty day for some of you. Big day for Cubes.

11 years ago at 7:50 pmThis is horrendous journalism. The way the article is phrased, it seems like Snapchat is to blame, while their servers were not breached. A third-party app (which Snapchat doesn’t endorse at all) was. Snapchat isn’t at fault here and you can continue to take nude pics at your own risk. I can’t believe i even called this journalism to begin with.
