The U.S. Navy Created A Shark Drone Because Fuck It, America
Just when you thought the United States military couldn’t get any more awesome, the navy decided to make the military even more tremendous. Those guys created an underwater spy drone that looks just like a shark. Not only is this new spy drone extremely stealthy, but it also has a lot of cool features.
Titled project “Silent Nemo” (I bet Disney loves the name) the device, called the GhostSwimmer, is the newest gadget that proves how remarkable the U.S. military truly is. The GhostSwimmer mimics the swimming power of a tuna but it looks like a shark, complete with a dorsal fin and all. The GhostSwimmer is five feet in length and weighs roughly 100 pounds. It can swim to a depth of 300 feet.
According to Michael Rufo, director of Boston Engineering’s Advanced System Group, which developed the UUV for the Navy, “GhostSwimmer will allow the Navy to have success during more types of missions while keeping divers and sailors safe.” For now, this cutting edge technology is gathering data on tides, currents, and other weather conditions. Don’t worry, though–soon, the GhostSwimmer will be used to further defend America.
Christopher Harmer, senior naval analyst with the Institute for the Study of War and the former deputy director of future operations for the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet states, said, “There isn’t any ground-breaking technology that the military hasn’t found some way to eventually weaponize.” Is there anything the U.S. military CAN’T do?.
