The University Of Toledo Deleted Their Tweet Asking For RTs To Change Their Mascot To Shrek

What a cowardice move. I said it in my original coverage of the story: As soon as they decided to write that shit out, it became a binding contract. You don’t just get to go back on it.

For those who missed it, and were too lazy to click the above link, Toledo posted a tweet to their official account today in which they stated the following: “If this gets 500k retweets we’ll change our mascot to Shrek.”

And 500,000 retweets they were well on their way to having. But before they could reach their goal, somebody decided to pull the plug. My best guess? It was probably some administrator who was none too pleased to see their beloved Rocket mascot being disparaged. But that’s not who the school is blaming. Instead, they have decided to blame that very mascot that they are now vowing to protect.

What was the endgame here? They can’t cry hacked or pass it off as a mistake. The tweet was posted for several hours while it caught viral fire. Do we have to just chalk it up to some cheap marketing ploy? What were they trying to sell us on? That their current mascot sucks and should be changed? Doesn’t seem to make sense.

Know this, University of Toledo, I don’t appreciate your tactics. Don’t go around messing with people’s hearts like that. It’s not kind.

Since Disney already owns college football every team should have to adopt a Disney mascot

Even if it’d actually have gone through; It’d be funny for MAYBE one season but most likely a month. After that we’d have all been like “this is dumb they are just trying to be funny/hip with the youngsters”
