The University Of Wisconsin Just Won A Lawsuit Against Apple That Might Be Worth $862 Million
When you work at a school whose budget is run by Scott Walker, you’re always looking for ways to nab some extra money for the university. I mean, c’mon — if this simpleton’s feast is the man’s idea of a good lunch, there’s no chance Scotty Walks is going to pony up enough money for you to do all those cool science-y, engineering-y, research-y things that he probably deems “unnecessary” and “wizard’s work.”

Called it!
Wisco’s need for money, paired with them actually having a good case, led them to go to court against tech giant Apple over a patent dispute.
From TechCrunch:
Apple is no stranger to patent lawsuits, but a more recent suit filed by the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s licensing branch may prove a costly loss for the iPhone maker.
A United States jury found that Apple’s A7, A8, and A8X chips, which are present in the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and the new iPhone 6S (plus some models of the iPad), contain technology covered by a 1998 patent filed by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (aka WARF).
The presiding judge, U.S. District Judge William Conley, said that Apple could owe up to $862 million in damages.
What will UW-Madison do if they get the full $862 mill? Here are some possibilities:
1. Miller Lite and Burnett’s in the dining halls
2. Save it until the next Green Bay Packers stock sale and buy 3,448,000 shares
3. $20,000 cheese curd subsidy per student
On, Wi$con$in!.

Time for a new everything!
10 years ago at 11:17 amThe Obama administration will step in and make sure that all illegal aliens in the US are allowed to go to Wisconsin for free before Wisconsin gets to upgrade.
10 years ago at 1:04 pmAt least we now know who Steve Holt is…
10 years ago at 11:18 amOr the tfm writers are just libs in rowdy gentlemen clothing.
10 years ago at 11:36 amI love the Packers and I’m a shareholder so I can tell you it doesn’t return shit! I like the Miller lite and cheese curd subsidy. Maybe a tanning room for all the pale girls of Wisconsin too
10 years ago at 11:22 amToo bad this is not even the school getting the money, it’s the alumni research foundation (WARF). Also, if anyone from this university complains about how our Republican Governor cut 15% of the schools budget in the next 3 years ask them about the 1 Billion in cash reserves it was discovered the school had.
10 years ago at 11:23 amI Stand With Scott Walker

10 years ago at 11:27 amIt’s annoying that people in Madison want to bitch about Walker and how bad it is yet most of these professors/students didn’t live here when Jim Doyle was governor. if anyone’s to blame for high education costs it’s the university that should be blamed.
10 years ago at 11:30 amThe high costs of education are a problem, and the cause is government intervention. In a free market, prices tend to decrease while quality tends to increase. Government intervention brings on higher prices in any field it gets into – medicine (i.e. Obamacare) is a perfect example of another field where this is the case. There’s a lot of information about this at the Mises Institute. No one is more dedicated to advancing free markets than the economists there. If you gents love capitalism and want to trigger the leftists until they go crying to their “safe zones” on campus, then check out mises.org – can’t recommend it highly enough.
10 years ago at 2:21 pmI agree that the school needs to shut the fuck up. Cuts were needed. But by far Scott Walker is the worst governor this state, or any other state has ever had. A man who creates such reckless laws purely because his billionaire donators tell him to, has zero business being in politics. Wisconsin is ranked in the lower 20% in all major standings and still calls his terms “successful”. I hope that douchebag got a wake up call when the people of this country told him to fuck off trying to be president, and his sugar daddy Koch brothers demand some compensation for his retarded attempt at trying to run this country as shitty as he runs out state.
PS – I’m a libertarian voting for Rand Paul. Fuck off for trying to call me a liberal pussy.
10 years ago at 11:52 amThis dude’s got a good point. Not every Republican is a genius. There’s plenty of fuck ups in the Republican Party and Walker is one of them. Thankfully, there are not nearly as many as there are on the other side of the aisle though.
10 years ago at 12:02 pmYou’re a liberal pussy.
10 years ago at 12:03 pm$862 million dollars worth of cheese curds is the last thing the women of Wisconsin need.
10 years ago at 11:27 amyou’re so fucking wrong. cheese curds are not only calorie free, recent studies show they provide essential vitamins and minerals that not only promote heart health, but give you the nutrition you and energy you need to take on the empire – doc poon

10 years ago at 12:42 pmThe country club is ham, turkey, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo. Ingredients in the order put on sandwhich are mayo, Tomato, lettuce, turkey, ham, cheese. But the meat and cheese goes on at once cause it’s pulled by a second person not the bread starter
