This Map That Shows How Each State Roots For College Football Has Some Shocking Twists

Ever wonder how much fan support each college team has in a state? Well, wonder no more. The Upshot released this map of how the country roots for college football. Overall, the map seems to be pretty accurate, but there are a few head-scratchers in the results. Take a look for yourself:

The map used “estimates based on each team’s share of Facebook ‘likes’ in a ZIP code.” Just another reason to hate Facebook. You expect me to believe that Kansas has more support in Kansas than K-State? Or that Fresno State has a broader fan base than Stanford, or even Cal? Get the fuck out of here.

Big win for UT fans, though–with the way this season is shaping up, dominating the Texas market will give Longhorn fans something to cheer about. And at least Alabama won something this weekend and has something to brag about to Auburn. However, this map came out before Alabama’s loss to Ole Miss, so we can’t tell you how many bandwagon fans went and un-liked the Tide on Facebook.

Hmmm. The colors of the schools tend to be concentrated around the geographic location of the institution itself. Fascinating.

You just admitted this is a useless map…

Another article linked to a map claiming some topic is related to specific regions. This has been their MOI for far too long.
