This Spokane Craigslist Post Has Inspired Me To Become The “Grill Dad”

High school was the beginning of my life as a generic father-in-training. It’s something I embrace.

It’s an identity that is only bestowed upon those who live a more mature and laid back degenerative lifestyle. My girlfriend has even begun to call me out on my “dad-isms,” and quite honestly, as long as I’m not an actual father any time soon, I enjoy it.

As I scrolled through my Twitter feed yesterday, dodging Kathy Griffin tweets and an endless story about a crazy ex-girlfriend, I came across this tweet from Lindsay Joy.

Now, there isn’t much on Twitter that any civilized human should aspire to be, but this Craigslist ad was different. It ignited a fire inside of my soul. This is who I was meant to be. I am a future generic grill dad.

Just look at this specimen of a dad. The no-logo Wal-Mart sweatshirt, the solid khaki shorts, and the awkward half-smile pose he’s putting on for the camera just makes for what should be a museum exhibit. He is the dream.

Even their required list of “dad” topics is nothing short of perfection.

I don’t want to grow old just yet. There are still a few years of mistakes left in my system, but when that day eventually comes, I will be this dad. Book it.

No one does. But as you grow older you start to surround yourself more with the things you care about and cut out more of the bullshit and you slowly come to realize that right now is a great time in your life.

I just meant he said “I don’t want to grow old just yet” but I guess that can mean more than “I don’t want to now, but later I WILL want to.”
