Damn It: Tiger Is Going To Miss The U.S. Open Again This Year

I know it shouldn’t come as a surprise, but legendary cheater and solid professional golfer Tiger Woods will not play in the U.S. Open next weekend at Oakmont in Pittsburgh.

The 14-time major champion hasn’t played competitively in almost a year. The last tournament he competed in was the Wyndham Championship in August 2015. The only big Tiger story of 2016 so far has been the outing of his love to play “Navy SEAL” and split checks with veterans. Let’s all relive that incredible story really quick, courtesy of ESPN.

Then there’s the story of the lunch, which spread throughout the Naval Special Warfare community. Guys still tell it, almost a decade later. Tiger and a group of five or six went to a diner in La Posta. The waitress brought the check and the table went silent, according to two people there that day. Nobody said anything and neither did Tiger, and the other guys sort of looked at one another.

Finally one of the SEALs said, “Separate checks, please.”

The waitress walked away.

“We are all baffled,” says one SEAL, a veteran of numerous combat deployments. “We are sitting there with Tiger f—ing Woods, who probably makes more than all of us combined in a day. He’s shooting our ammo, taking our time. He’s a weird f—ing guy. That’s weird s—. Something’s wrong with you.”

Phenomenal. Anyways, from USA Today:

“While I continue to work hard on getting healthy, I am not physically ready to play in this year’s U.S. Open and the Quicken Loans National,” Woods wrote on his blog. “I am making progress, but I’m not yet ready for tournament competition.”

The U.S. Open begins June 16 at Oakmont Country Club near Pittsburgh. In 2007, the last time Oakmont hosted the national championship, Woods finished in a tie for second, one shot behind Angel Cabrera.

Please God. I just want ONE more competitive major from Tiger Woods. Can you imagine Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Phil and Tiger all going at it in a championship? It would be absolutely incredible golf. I am a Jordan Speith homer through and through (Hook’ em Horns, motherfuckers), but I have a soft spot in my heart for Tiger Woods — who made major championship golf appointment television for us as kids. I mean, can anybody out there really hate Tiger Woods? Excluding his ex-wife, of course.

Tiger has missed three of the last five U.S. Opens due to injury. Chances are, he won’t have but one or two serious shots at another major championship left. That sucks. Here’s to a strong recovery and a couple more injury-free seasons. We golf fans need this..
