Tragedy Strikes Isla Vista: Disturbed SBCC Student Kills 6 Out Of Sexual Frustration
The UC Santa Barbara community is grieving after tragedy struck Isla Vista Friday night. In a video he posted to YouTube, 22-year-old Elliot Rodger–a Santa Barbara City College student and son of “Hunger Games” assistant director Peter Rodger–vowed to “slaughter” people around the UCSB campus as an act of retribution. He specifically mentions targeting the “hottest sorority house of UCSB,” which we’d later learn is Alpha Phi. Rodger also wrote a 137-page manifesto outlining his plans to carry out the attack.
The retribution Rodger refers to is vengeance for all the girls who haven’t given him the affection he feels he’s deserved. In the video, he reveals that he’s a virgin and admits to feeling lonely and sexually deprived.
The video shows Rodger sitting in the driver’s seat of his BMW. He talks about his plans to carry on the mass shooting and his reasoning behind it. The video has been removed from YouTube, but you can watch it on TMZ if you’d like. I don’t recommend it, however. It’s one of the creepiest things I’ve ever seen.
Here’s an excerpt, via the Los Angeles Times:
“I’m 22 years old and still a virgin, never even kissed a girl. And through college, 2½ years, more than that actually, I’m still a virgin. It has been very torturous,” he said. “The popular kids, you never accepted me and now you will all pay for it. Girls, all I ever wanted was to love you, be loved by you. I wanted a girlfriend. I wanted sex, love, affection, adoration.”
“”You forced me to suffer all my life, now I will make you all suffer,” he said. “All you girls who rejected me, looked down upon me, you know, treated me like scum while you gave yourselves to other men. And all of you men for living a better life than me, all of you sexually active men. I hate you. I hate all of you. I can’t wait to give you exactly what you deserve, annihilation.”
The tragedy began when Rodger fatally stabbed three roommates at his apartment complex at the 6500 block of Seville Road in Isla Vista. He then drove a few blocks to the Alpha Phi house where he shot at three girls, killing two of them. According to their chapter Twitter account, the two girls fatally shot were not members of the sorority. Rodger’s last stop was a local deli where he shot and killed another UCSB student. He then took off through the streets of Isla Vista, shooting at innocent pedestrians before getting into a shootout with police. Rodger was later found dead in his car with a gunshot wound to the head, appearing to be self-inflicted.
Another senseless act of violence hits a college campus. What a nightmare. We extend our thoughts to all affected by this tragedy.
UPDATE: We have learned the two girls killed by Rodger are members of Delta Delta Delta at UCSB. Thoughts go out to the friends and family of the victims.

11 years ago at 8:07 pmAlright, so got pretty far in the manifesto (his life story), and here’s what I’ve gathered so far: aside from the classic case of being a shy kid and not fitting in, he blames being short and mixed race as part of his problems. Also, lack of parents being involved in his life, constant moving of homes and schools, and divorce seem to add in the mix. Biggest problem I’ve noticed is the kid seems to have been given every single thing he ever asked his parents for, games, cars, you name it. From this, he sounds like he grew very spoiled and jealous of anyone who had something that he didn’t (at first material possessions, then friends, then girls). I’m not saying it’s his parents fault at all, far from it. Most of his problems were only perceived in his mind it seems, where he felt entitled to anything that wasn’t his. Clear signs of psychosis, grandeur, and narcissism manifested in self-pity and rage, blaming everyone else but himself. It’s pretty fucked up, he truly turned into a monster.

After he killed his roommates (which he did along with one of their friends) he intended to lure people into his house to flay and skin Game of Thrones style (not kidding) and then decapitate and save the heads. He was then going to go and kill his little brother (16 yr old) because he was jealous his brother would be more popular than him one day and then kill his step mom because he hated her. Then he planned on infiltrating the Alpha Phi house to kill and burn the house down, and then head to State Street to dump all the decapitated heads he’d saved and open fire on people before killing himself…
He started with high-functioning aspergers, which contributed to his outcast status and obsession with women. This obsession turned into a form of sociopathic desires, self-hate, and envy, and even a God complex, where he envisioned himself as a dictator ruling over a concentration camp of women… However he never approached women, but expected them to come him, because he thought of himself as a supreme supernatural being after years of isolation playing World of Warcraft and reading fantasy novels…
This was not an ordinary attack. This was not just some pissed virgin. This person was terribly mentally disturbed and evil. It was a terrible awful tragedy, and we all need to be more aware of individuals like this in our midst.
11 years ago at 3:44 pmThe thing I think I’m having the most trouble with are all the articles that attribute the media, such as American Psycho and Dexter, to helping this kid become the mass murderer and absolute sociopath he was. I read one that said because our society ‘glorified’ psychopathic killers, Rodger was ‘desensitized’? But even in his own manifesto, he says how his dad tried to raise him with morals and teach him how to be a good person and we all have some sort of latent sense of right and wrong so I can’t really grasp that concept. The article even tried to tie in the Hunger Games and how it exhibited cold killing of children. But I’m not a psychology major and could never rationalize what happened even if I tried.

Nick (my buddy), broke both of his legs that required extensive surgery to repair and it will take months of physical therapy for him to even stand again.
