Tucker Max Makes A Move To Broadway

In today’s “Am I sure I read that right?” news, Tucker Max has indeed decided to make a move to the bright lights of Broadway, making a musical adaptation of his bestselling book and subsequent film, I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell. The adaptation will be called I Hope They Serve Beer On Broadway and is set to debut Off-Broadway in either May or June. The initial cost of the production is said to be $6 million.

If your first inclination is to scoff at Max’s attempt to bring fraternity comedy to New York City, keep in mind how well South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s Book of Mormon is doing right now. It’s currently the biggest show on Broadway and will have been running for two consecutive years next week. Having said that, it’ll be interesting to see Max try his hand at musical theater.

Who knows, maybe someday we’ll see a TFM: The Musical marquee in Times Square. Nathan Lane would make a great Roger Dorn; that’s all I know. Hank Azaria would kill it in the role of Bacon and I’m almost certain Hugh Jackman would be down to play the role of yours truly. The scope of Broadway performance has certainly changed and has begun to market itself towards younger male audiences.

Before you sneer at the idea of catching a Broadway show, I hearken back to the words of the great Patrick Bateman: “Next Saturday? Can’t. I have a matinée of Les Mis.”

Tee minus ten hours until some high schooler posts: “Tucker Max make a Broadway show. TFM.” And, of course, the fucking intern will post it.

The South Park movie was funny too. I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell was a terrible movie. I’m not buying it.

Gentlemen, over/under three weeks until we see 40 fucking ads on the site for TFM: The Musical?

I feel like Book of Mormon is much more adaptable to Broadway than Tucker Max’s stuff is.

I feel this is going to be a money pit like Spiderman. If Tucker Max have the right partners and people to produce the show, he may be on a cash cow.

Why would it be called “TFM: The Musical” and not “Total Frat Musical”? Marketing synergy, you guys. Get it together.

Not sure if it will be as much of a laugh riot as “Oh Africa, Brave Africa.”
