Twins And Braves Have A Lighthearted Twitter Feud, One Up Each Other’s Power Moves

The Atlanta Braves completed their series sweep of the Minnesota Twins down at the Ted today, running their winning streak up to six games and giving what I assume was a crowd of about 5,000 a nice afternoon. Here’s hoping more than a few Atlanta residents skipped work to pound beer at the Chop House. However, what was seemingly a random late May series between two random teams had a little extra spice added to it, thanks to the Twins press corps, a Twitter feud, and some postseason history between the clubs.

Back in 1991, before a depressingly large majority of TFM readers were born, the Twins and Braves competed against each other in what many consider to be one of the two or three greatest World Series ever played. The series featured two teams in the Twins and Braves who had both completed worst to first turnarounds that year. Every game was tight, ending in a Game 7 in which a young, superbly mustachioed John Smoltz threw 7.1 innings of shutout ball, but was ultimately out dueled by the legendary Jack Morris, who went the 10-inning distance for the Twins, who took home the title on a walk off hit.

The series was so exciting I wet my pants during literally every game, though that also might have been because of my age and the fact that my dad was sneaking me beer. You break the seal so easily when you’re that little.

So today, as a little jab at their postseason history, the Twins press decided to hang the jersey of Kent Hrbek, a legendary member of their ’91 team, from their box.

Power move. No doubt about it.

After the game however, the Braves’ Twitter account had an excellent rebuttal.

Power move ONE UPPED. Scoreboard, bitches.

The Twins weren’t going to take that sort of mockery sitting down though.

Damn. Power move shut down. Trophy > scoreboard. Well played Twins. Well played.

    Went to the game yesterday. Great atmosphere for a Wednesday afternoon. Chophouse was rockin. Gattis’ homerun cleared the fence by about 3 feet.
