U.S. Army’s New ‘Smart’ Grenade Launcher Is Stupid Deadly

The U.S. Army will soon add “smart” grenade launchers to its arsenal.

Most launchers don’t do damage until the grenade comes into contact with the ground, wall, or a turban. But the XM25 Counter Defilade Target Engagement gives its launcher the ability to detonate the goods at any time, including mid-air, thanks to a laser rangefinder. Like most “smart” technology, I assume it will also be iPhone compatible, so you can blast “Danger Zone” or stream Braveheart from any point on the battlefield.

According to the specs, a soldier just lines up the little red dot with where he wants the grenade to blow, and target information is sent to the chambered 25mm round. This enables a soldier to detonate directly above a hidden baddie, increasing hit probability 300 to 500 percent.

Ammunition also comes in a non-lethal flavor, so cops can use it to immobilize a target without killing them (sometimes I crack myself up). The XM25 was unveiled after five years of development, and will begin field testing next year.

I want a turn. I want a turn.

I’m sure they’ll carry these bad boys in Walmart soon enough.

This is awesome, but I’m just waiting to see how the sr-72 turns out. It’s going to take a few years, but once it’s done, game over.

Gunna use a 25mm grenade instead of the 40mm we use now? Guess it’s about how you use it instead of size.

Maybe they can send one to Grandex so y’all can “3rd party test” it on Steve Holt. You know, for research reasons.
