UCLA Is Offering A Spring Course That Examines Greek Life Through Discussion And Dance

I’m not going to lie, my fraternity experience had much more dancing and theatrics than I originally anticipated. Granted, this all accumulated during my pledge semester and it was more me making an ass out of myself by stripping down to my boxer briefs and skull fucking the air in the name of a sorority’s philanthropy event than actual dancing.

So, needless to say, I’m a little confused by a new course at the University of California, Los Angeles.

From the Daily Bruin:

World Arts and Cultures 174A, a two-unit course titled “Desire on Campus: UCLA Sororities and Fraternities Move It Forward,” will take the form of an action conversation, which is a method of expression that includes deep discussion as well as dance and theater performances, said co-instructor Victoria Marks, a professor of choreography. In the course, students will discuss topics that Marks said are typically scrutinized by the media in Greek life, such as partying or sexual relationships.

The class will culminate in a final project in which students produce a collective 10- to 15-minute film about the topics covered throughout the quarter.

That’s right, they’re going to solve the hard-hitting issues fraternities and sororities face with the help of a little organized, choreographed dancing. Interesting angle, UCLA. Love the intent of what you’re trying to accomplish here, but the execution is certainly questionable.

Surprisingly, as of yesterday, zero dudes have signed up for the class.

“The class will culminate in a final project in which students produce a collective 10- to 15-minute film about the topics covered throughout the quarter.” So the clear course of action here is to promise but never deliver a final project.

This is going to result in a bunch of hippies gathering in a circle and talking about how racist, sexist, homophobic, and conformist they believe the Greek
System is. We know who we are though. Thanks but no thanks UCLA

What’s the difference between skull-fucking the air and normal-fucking the air?
