i asked a soldier in the admirals club last year and he said it’s because we don’t retreat and we always face the enemy..thus the flag is flown like we are heading into battle not fleeing away.
^ Basically right. It’s that the stars always go in the highest position of honor, and on a moving person, that is the top front. AKA that we only stride forward with pride.
I’ve been told it’s because the union is supposed to be on the side closer to the heart. Similarly, when you see this orientation on the right side of a police car, it’s because it’s supposed to be closest to the driver (the heart).
You look ate up like chocate dick at a gay bar there guy. If you were one of my soldiers I’d take you out back and scuff you up. Stay safe though and keep up the fight.
Helmet band loops over his base plate, which would get in the way of NODs. Unless he’s training for a deployment he should have a patch on the slick sleeve. The m68 CCO on that m4 is riding up a little far too. It’s all good, we were all cherry’s once too. He’ll have an NCO put a boot up his ass and he’ll be hazing al-qaeda in no time.
Well since it is me in the picture I’ll respond to all that:
My squad leader recently brought me some helmet bands and said we all had to cut the cat eyes off and put them on our helmet, for uniformity. I had not put a helmet band on my helmet since cat eyes are not allowed in Afghanistan, but some guys had fancy bands with theirs names embroidered on them and shit. I didn’t have my Gerber on me, so I never took the bracket off. Since the band doesn’t actually do anything, its just a blank band that someone tells me I have to wear, I would just throw it away if I actually had to use my NODs…which btw part of our MOVECON includes not doing night missions. My NODs only get switched on during PCC/PCI.
It’s my second deployment. I choose not to wear a deployment patch. If you could see the front of my IOTV you would also see the only patch on it is an IR patch with my blood type. Don’t worry about what unit I’m in or who I was with on my first deployment, or my name, or my rank.
The CCO is where it is because when I zeroed it I thought I was getting a 3x magnifier. Since I’m not doing the type of work I thought I’d be doing, I skipped the mag, but left the CCO where it is. Back when I was a cherry (and a GDI too, but this was a long time ago) I had an M16A2 and the CCO was even further forward. It never kept me from shooting 36 or more targets.
That sucks about not getting the 3x magnifier. I can already guess around what your rank is if you have a squad leader. Stay safe, hope the bullshit over there isn’t getting too deep just yet.
Your service is much appreciated. Stay safe and we’ll keep some cold ones iced down for you to pound when you get back.
