University Of Arizona Is Kicking Fraternities Off Campus Left And Right, Delt The 8th In 3 Years To Go
There’s a concerning trend in Tucson, Arizona, and if you’re a Wildcat still lucky enough to be on Greek row, there’s no doubt you’re currently walking on eggshells trying not to catch the wrath of school administrators. For the eighth time in three years, The University of Arizona has officially withdrawn recognition from another fraternity. This time around, Delta Tau Delta, a chapter at UA since 1959, is the latest to get shown the door.
From Tucson.com:
The local chapter of Delta Tau Delta, which has been on the UA campus since 1959, was suspended by the fraternity’s national headquarters July 1 for “repeated violations” of policies that aim to protect students from harm and for poor academic performance among new members, a news release from the national office in Indiana said.
The chapter already was on probation with the UA for hazing, alcohol violations and other infractions when the national suspension came down, university officials said.
Fraternity brothers who belonged to the local chapter were provided with guidance and opportunities to mend their ways but failed to do so, the national organization said.
“The chapter demonstrated it was not willing to move in a new direction,” it said.
The UA requires fraternities to be in good standing with their national headquarters in order to be recognized as a UA-affiliated student group, so the national office suspension precipitated the related action by the university on July 2, the UA said in a news release Tuesday.
Pour some out for Delt and add them to an already lengthy list of fraternities getting the boot since 2012 that includes Theta Chi, Phi Kappa Psi, Delta Chi, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Pi Kappa Phi, Phi Gamma Delta and Delta Sigma Phi. Dangerous times for our friends in Tucson.
I understand axing an organization here or there, but we’re on pace for three a year. Something just seems off about that. Sounds like a book I read –scratch that, Sparknoted — back in high school, “The Crucible.” There has to be some John Proctors getting burnt (spoiler alert) unjustly, but rather than the setting making sense and being a radical Puritan New England settlement, we’re talking about a notoriously huge party school.
That’s what you are, Arizona. A party school. Stop acting all high and mighty thinking kids come to you for the academics. They go to your school to roll their faces off at day rage pool parties year round. No more, no less. You are what we think you are..

Stop the Presses: Nationals cave to a University Administration, Screw over another Chapter.
10 years ago at 1:37 pmTheir nationals dropped them before U of A did
10 years ago at 9:48 pmSame lady that came over and kicked half of our fraternities off at ASU was hired by U of A to do the same. Damn shame. Still, fuck you U of A
10 years ago at 1:50 pmThe lady who is kicking them all off is the one that fucked over ASU fraternities. She went from ASU to UA.
10 years ago at 2:09 pmThe problem here is the type of kids coming into fraternities as freshmen. Many people go to this school for the wrong reasons. In my freshman dorm, I remember a non exaggerated 30% of my hall didn’t attend the school by the second semester. Theta chi for example was kicked off because of a pledge insisted he take his pants off to be paddled “like his dad was”. Which is respectable, until he posted it on their fucking Facebook page. The exec’s of every chapter take risk management very seriously, that’s why blackballing kids is very common here. Sometimes, it’s too late and this happens. I highly recommend looking up the Arizona Greek judicial page (very easy to google), you’ll see a commonality immediately for the reasons why we’re taking huge hits to the IFC.
10 years ago at 3:16 pmIt’s the same problem at ASU. When you have virtually no admissions standards at your school, it obviously does allow for some dumb, hot girls from California to get into a 4 year school instead of being stuck at a community college and getting knocked up at 19. Everyone can agree that part is pretty great. But the flip side is that no matter how hard you try to weed them out, you inevitably end up rushing some real idiots, and those idiots end up ruining it for everybody else
But of course, U of A and ASU relax their academic standards more and more each year to make more money, and then still wonder why the idiots they let in keep doing stupid shit
10 years ago at 4:47 pmYou’re forgetting the key fact that ASU fucking sucks compared to the UA
10 years ago at 5:01 pmWhen your nationals comes and kicks out half the members of your chapter you should probably get the fucking hint to lay low. While most chapters get kicked off for bullshit reasons, this chapter completely deserved it.
10 years ago at 3:19 pmShit like this makes me worry for Greek life as a whole, sure we can joke about it for now but what do you think will be happening in like 5-10 years? I know for a fact IFC at my school is getting stricter and stricter every year. Even moreover will there be fraternities left so are sons can experience what we do, or will all fraternities by that time be pussified?
10 years ago at 3:56 pmWe make unfortunate bets with each other that Greek life will either not exist in 5 years at UA or that it will be almost irrelevant
10 years ago at 4:58 pmAlso, Dan. About your last paragraph, there are a fair amount of students who come for that exact reason- to not go their for academics. Those are the kids who drop out unless they’re a Comm major or BA psych and don’t have any academic difficulty.
10 years ago at 5:15 pmIt’s not every day I can feel sad for UofA, this is one of those days. The next ones for you ΔΤΔ
10 years ago at 8:58 pmsounds like usc. glad my fraternity is still on, and that we’ve been here for more than 5 fucking years.
