You’re absolutely right. When the Carter administration pushed through the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977, it essentially placed a time bomb in our economy. Considering Regan was the next president, he really didn’t really enforce it. While George H. W. Bush may have made some amendments, these were aimed mainly at trying to reign in its effects, because when the government gets it clumsy hands into private enterprise (Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac), it has about as much success as a Boise State kicker. What catalyzed this whole mess to detonate was Clinton’s 1995 amendments that effectively pushed banks to give loans to people who could not pay them back. Honestly, do you think any politician, especially a white man from Texas, would be dumb enough to persecute a law that supposedly helps minorities?
