Actually, Maryland was a split state that was held in the Union by marshal law enacted by Abe..not voluntarily. The first blood spilled in the war was not at Ft. Sumter, as you probably think, but in Baltimore when a Southern mob attacked Northern soldiers on their way to DC. Upto 50,000 guys from Maryland joined the Confederate Army, the head of the Confederate Navy was from Maryland, and John Wilkes Boothe (remember him?), was from Maryland. So forget the history lesson ur grandpappy told you and read a book

yeah but NY didnt contribute 50,000 guys to the Confederacy..KY and MO had stars on the Rebel battle flag but never left the Union, MD had a star on certain Rebel flags as well. it wasn’t a state that voted to remain in the Union, it was held in by force or else DC would have been surrounded. So while it wasn’t a Confederate State it wasn’t really a Union state either, by the citizens’ concensus. It was a border state that contributed heavily to the South so if ur Southern you should respect the fact that a lot of guys from that state died fighting for the Confederacy.
As a resident of the north, am aware that a majority of our population consists of spiteful geeds. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that these Maryland natives are trying to make a satirical fratty picture. The confederate flag, cheap neon sunglasses, fake mustache to mock the many fraternity men who participate in Movember, and Baby Gap polo give it away. This guy is definitely having a chuckle that his joke picture made it on TFM.
