University Of Maryland's Athletic Events Are About To Get Better, Will Start Selling Alcohol Next Year

It’s time to continue the party inside the stadiums and arenas. As of now, most of us are subjected to the flask life and pray that we aren’t patted down by some officer who has a personal vendetta against college kids. It’s a travesty that we are forced to kill our buzz while watching our team try and make it through four quarters or two halves with at least some of their dignity left.

Thankfully for some of us, there are some schools out there who know that we like to drink while watching our teams play — 31 of them in fact.

The University of Maryland is planning on becoming the 32nd school to join in on the party. All they need is the president’s approval. According to the SGA’s president at Maryland, that approval looks like a foregone conclusion.

“From everything I’ve heard, [Loh] is going to approve it,” said Patrick Ronk, the SGA’s president. “I think they’ll [then] need final approval from the [Prince George’s County] liquor board, but I think they’ve already said they’re fine with it.”

Why does this kid think that he’ll approve it? Well, President Loh asked the community on Tuesday what their thoughts on the idea was. Simply put, no one is going to say no to buying beer at the games, or a glass of wine if you feel like classing it up a little.

Once approved, the sale of beer and wine will be brought to every sport at Maryland starting next fall. The only thing negative thing that Maryland is doing is that they plan on setting limits to how many drinks can be bought.

There will be limits, likely two drinks per purchase and potentially three drinks per fan, but the mechanism for enforcing such limits is to be determined.

Don’t shit the bed on this one, Maryland. Remove that three drink limit. As Ron Swanson once said, “Never half-ass two things. Whole-ass one thing.”

I love the concept, but the only reason they brought that into effect is because football in Maryland sucks as a whole.

As you can clearly see here gentleman, times are tough at Maryland when crab cakes and football are in the same sentence of support for their team.

On an unrelated note, how much is this “Big Time in Hollywood” paying you guys to advertise? I’m betting this annoyingly over-the-top add with so much movement is the reason you’re crashing about once a day now.

As someone who goes to the University of Maryland, this doesn’t change anything for me. No way in hell I’m paying 6-7 dollars for a beer. I’d much rather just get drunk at the tailgate and maybe sneak something in
