Offended Students Get University Of Michigan To Cancel Showing Of “American Sniper,” School Showing It Anyway
The University of Michigan wanted to treat their students with a nice movie night. The movie they planned to show? Only one of the greatest films to come out in 2014, “American Sniper.” A fine choice if you ask me. It shows what it takes to be courageous, selfless, and brave.
However, not every student shares that same sentiment. A group of students in a club called “MENA” (Muslim, Middle Eastern and North African students) got all up in arms over the movie because they were offended and penned a letter to the Center for Campus Involvement addressing their concerns. Michigan relented and pulled the screening.
From FOX News:
The abrupt change came after several hundred students and their supporters filed a protest – attacking both the film and Chris Kyle.
“Watching this movie is provocative and unsafe to MENA and Muslim students who are too often reminded of how little the media and world value their lives,” the students wrote in their letter.
The Center for Campus Involvement (CCI) took one look at the letter, freaked out and immediately pulled the plug on the highest grossing film of 2014.
COME ON. Watching a movie is now unsafe?! What kind of excuse is that? People these days are too soft. Grow a damn backbone. Don’t like the movie? Guess what? No one is forcing you to watch it. That doesn’t mean you have to deprive the rest of us who want to see it because you think it’s offensive and unsafe to you.
Thankfully, we have guys like Jim Harbaugh out there. The new head coach isn’t going to let these kids keep his team from seeing the film.
Michigan Football will watch "American Sniper"! Proud of Chris Kyle & Proud to be an American & if that offends anybody then so be it!

Maybe Jim Harbaugh has a little more pull than first imagined. The school will show the film.
From College Fix:
In the wake of national uproar over the decision by the University of Michigan to cancel a screening of “American Sniper,” campus leaders late Wednesday completely reversed that call, announcing the film will be shown at its originally scheduled time and location.
Good decision..

As a former military member, i would have been highly upset if they did not reverse their decision. MURICA!
11 years ago at 10:46 amHow can people consider themselves to be “liberals” if they can’t accept anything that is potentially contrary to their own views and seek to have it banned? They’ve probably never seen the film anyway, idiots.
11 years ago at 10:50 amThe most ridiculous part is that they accuse other people of doing that exact same thing all the time. It’s their third favorite defense. First, it’s blame Bush. Second, they accuse of you killing kids, old people, puppies, etc. Then, it’s that you are trying to force your beliefs down their throats and you aren’t tolerant enough. Liberals are the worst people in this country. I wish they would take their “enlightened” asses, and get the fuck out if they think it’s so bad here.
11 years ago at 12:48 pmAnd yes, I’m telling you how I really feel.
11 years ago at 12:49 pmFuck them. If they want to criticize an American hero they can go get an education back overseas and risk being murdered by the monsters they are defending. It’s a privilege for them to be here, so respect us.
11 years ago at 10:51 amWe live in a country that is free thanks to heroes like Kyle. It’s sad that they come to our country to better their lives, but don’t live with the same values.
11 years ago at 10:51 amKyle is not an honorable person. He lied about punching Jesse Ventura in the face to increase his book sales. Ventura gave him every opportunity to change it, and Kyle refused. The courts proved Kyle is a liar when Ventura won his lawsuit.

11 years ago at 12:57 amI’m offended that they got offended.

I may not be a Michigan Football fan, but I am a Jim Harbaugh fan
11 years ago at 11:18 amAmerica is downright getting out of hand thanks to the senseless, people referring to themselves as “advocates”.
11 years ago at 11:24 amSome UM student should draft a letter asking for the school to pull any and all funding MENA receives, because their anti-American banter offends me. I’m sure as hell it also offends the men and woman that serve our country and die for it. ie. Chris Kyle.
11 years ago at 11:32 amHow the hell do you get offended by this movie? It is hands down one of the best movies ever made. It’s the story of a great American hero and his life. Don’t like the movie then fuck off.
11 years ago at 12:02 pmNo one was going to force them to watch it. I don’t understand liberal logic.
