University Of Washington Cheerleaders Deemed Racist For Telling Prospects How To Look
Earlier this week, the University of Washington cheerleading team posted the following photo to their Facebook page. The photo was intended to let prospective cheerleaders know how to dress, how to do their makeup, and what their body should look like.
Seems harmless. Basically make yourself look like a cheerleader. Be athletically fit, wear a black sports bra, mid rise shorts, cheer shoes, and make sure you aren’t wearing any flashy makeup. In fact, if I was a prospective cheerleader, I would want to know this information before trying out to avoid sticking out.
Well, some people got offended over the graphic because they felt it was racist, forcing UW to pull it down.
From the Seattle Times:
“I can’t believe this is real,” said UW student Jazmine Perez, director of programming for student government, via email.
“One of the first things that comes mind is objectification and idealization of Western beauty, which are values I would like to believe the University doesn’t want to perpetuate,” she said. “As a student of color who looks nothing like the student in the poster, this feels very exclusive.”
Cheerleading is all about being able to cheer and look good doing it. It has nothing to do with the color of your skin, Jazmine. In fact, I’m sure that the team will definitely take a woman of color if she’s a top-notch cheerleader. The 2015-16 UW squad wasn’t exclusive to just whites. Take a look at their team for yourself.
God forbid they are just trying to help you out so you don’t get cut day one by showing up looking scrappy. In fact, UW was just copying what their rivals over at Washington State did on their Facebook page.
No one got their panties in a wad over that, so get over it..

9 years ago at 12:34 pmI mean we are already at the point where people with penises have to be called “women”. Biology and science and, you know – REALITY have stopped mattering in today’s PC world. Pretty soon we won’t even be allowed to call fat people unhealthy because fatties will just have diabetes and heart disease declared an “alternative lifestyle” by their school administrators that can’t be called bad. Doctors won’t be allowed to tell obese patients they need to exercise and eat better because it hurts their feelings. Phys Ed classes will be cancelled because they “discriminate” against whales who can’t even run a mile without collapsing from exhaustion.
